Black Jesus pic looks to tap controversy

The success Mel Gibson had in transforming churchgoers into moviegoers with "The Passion of the Christ" has inspired another indie production on the story of the last hours in the life of Jesus Christ.
But "Color of the Cross," produced on a tiny $2.5 million budget, will feature a black actor portraying Christ.

I think Christians in different cultures have different ideas of what Jesus looked like. Years ago, I had black neighbors who were devout Christians, and they had a painting of an African-looking Jesus. Most of the Jesus paintings I've seen in America make Him look like Barry Gibb or Kenny Loggins.

Got this depiction off of a site, that I Googled, "What did Jesus look like?"

But last summer, either the Discover Channel, or History Channel, ran a program about this, and they believe this was as close as possible, given the region - Nazareth - that he came from.

My old man has long brown hair, soft brown eyes and a mustache and beard. People tell me all the time that he looks just like Jesus. :lmao:

Think about where Christ was from.. what should he look like??
For real. Because I'm a cynical beyotch, I think the producers are probably creating the controversy for free publicity so people will go see their movie. There shouldn't be too many people who really are upset at a black guy playing Jesus.

Jesus was a Israelite and He was Middle Eastern while on the earth. Middle Eastern Jews tend to have olive skin color. He probably had medium long hair and a beard which were the custom of the period among Jewish men.

What He looked like on earth is a pointless waste of time. No one knows and it does not matter. What He did for all of us is what is important.

Right on 2A :yay:

I don't know why it matters which ethnicity he is, we all still have to bow and confess to get into heaven regardless. Olives come in two colors green and black and I dont think his skin was either of those. IMO

Olive skin is neither green or black. Olive skin tones tend to look somewhat ashen or gray, from the combination of the natural yellow undertone everyone has and the greenish hue that’s unique to olive skin of any depth. Find a Middle Eastern person of any heritage, Israelite, Arab, that is the color; tends to be greenish brown but lightens to greenish tan when out of the direct sun of the Middle East.

Interestingly, God is describe in Revelation as being color of jasper and sardius stones.
Revelation 4:2-4

2Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.

3And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.

4Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.
Jasper is normally an opaque green stone; sardius is an opaque red stone. Jasper does come in many other colors, but the jasper of the Bible was probably the green type.

So people that ascribe white, black, or other skin coloration to God are contradicted by what John writes in the book of Revelation who says God looks green and red (Christmas colors). I don't think God much cares about skin color in the grand scheme of things.
