One Boycott Too Many

"The Rev. Al Sharpton will not eat at KFC and he doesn't think you should either.

"Starting today, Mr. Sharpton is joining forces with the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to urge a boycott of KFC, which is owned by Yum Brands of Louisville, Ky."

Forget under-performing schools. Forget alledged racial inequities. It looks like The Rev. Al is going after corporate abuse of chicken! I guess since there's no money to be made by going after schools, he has to get his blackmail money from somehere. But I think the fatal flaw here is that anyone who takes Sharpton seriously isn't likely to be the type who will give up on fried chicken, even for Al.

I started another thread on this but deleted it after I saw yours.

I refuse to eat at any restaurant that caves in to PETA's demands. It just sets a bad precedent for other businesses that are being extorted by wacko extremist groups.

Be honest, folks: does anyone really care about chickens and cows? Really? Would you honestly be more likely to eat at McDonalds or KFC if you thought they were only buying from farmers who treat their meat more humanely before they killed it?

Sharpton doesn't care about the issue, either - and don't for a moment think he does - he just needed some press. He went to the Jesse Jackson school of Notoriety.

I agree with vrai, is there a humane way to kill?
No, but there is a human way to treat the animal before we consume it. Many of these birds never see daylight, they are crammed into cages, pumped full of hormones and then killed. But I guess it's the only way we can get a bucket of chicken for $10.99...lowest price will always win, no matter how the goods got to us. :patriot:

Sounds almost like a full-ride athletic scholarship recipient to me. Trouble is, they kill themselves instead of the fans killing them.

Hello? Who cares? What's the point of treating something humanely if you're just going to kill it and eat it?

If Sharpton really cared about chickens he would be taking on Tyson foods. But then he'd be running afoul (afowl?) of the previous First Lady (the one with fat cankles) who is a stock holder in Tysons.
Good point! :yay:

It does appear that Rev Al is out to get some press coverage. I haven't seen him on the news lately, so there you are.

BTW, anybody know if chickens are conservative or liberal?

Lord, I apologize.
Maybe the consumers should be more worried about the chemicals they put in the chickens than the treatment of the chickens.

Hmmmm. Let's see if we can't figure this out:

Make lots of noise and crap. Eat lots of stuff and continually demand more. Very limited view of the world - centered on Mememe. Only good they do is when something comes out their butt or they die. You tell me.

I don't know if chickens are liberal, but I do know most liberals are chicken...

I do know a couple of chicken farmers, and I've learned some interesting things about chicks (the bird kind):

1. They are not a bunch of fun-loving covorters who just want to be happy in chickenland. They are aggressive cannibals who will rip apart and consume any of their number who appears weak. That's why many chicken farmers buy red contact lenses for their chickens, so that everything looks red and they can't spot blood.
2. A chicken farmer, after selling eggs for a year and selling the bird for meat, makes about .25 a bird profit. That's a damn low margin, so you really have to wonder how valid the claims of chicken abuse are. Every chicken the farmer loses to alledged abuse from him, or attacks from other chickens, costs him dearly as every bird has to produce at 100% to make the farm profitable.

Shoot, I could have told you that. I used to go visit my great-grandparents on their farm when I was a little kid and my job was to feed the chickens. :shudder: They see you coming with the feed tray and they'll give sharks a run for their money. Imagine being 3 feet high and getting rushed by a flock of mad chickens. Child abuse, in my opinion.

Since then I have made it my policy to eat every single chicken I can get my hands on.

Well I honestly would feel better eating a former happy chicken than a caged one.

Just because we all won't become vegetarians doesn't mean we shouldn't treat the animals humanely.
