"One of the best presidents in the country right now...."

Stubborn and opinionated
I read a Facebook post from Heather Cox Richardson yesterday that proclaimed many great things about Biden. I lost brain cells when she said inflation is currently being caused by our record strong economy. Even scarier was the fact that she had over 56k likes to her post and every comment fell right in line with her way of thinking.

Which is why I not only believe they should be allowed to have an abortion, it should be mandatory.

I was just on a thread where virtually everyone insisted that inflation is caused by corporations jacking up the prices of everything across the board and the solution is to tax the living hell out of them (which NEVER makes sense to me, because taxing corporations never results in lower prices OR money funneled back to us).

Inflation fundamentally is caused by too many dollars chasing too few product.
Now - that can be a few things - it can be a supply problem - and for some reason, two years after the shutdowns - somehow we are still seeing that.

My non-economist mind sees two extremely obvious causes - high price of oil (which is in EVERYTHING from transportation to manufacturing) and PRINTING MORE MONEY. I actually know a woman online who thinks that the U.S. government can just print money indefinitely - that somehow, the paper itself carries some value, and if they want us all to be rich, they can just print a few trillion and make us all millionaires. NO ONE IS ABLE to explain it to her, she just gets irate and accuses people.

You know - I didn't vote for Reagan - but not long after he became President, the economy REALLY tanked - at least as bad as under Carter and Reagan was changing a lot of things to fix it. And I remember a lot of people having buyer's remorse -

And there was ME, the guy who didn't vote for him - saying we should let him keep working at it, I had faith that his solutions would work.

And they did. For years. But I can tell you at the time, it didn't look like it.

So while I don't think anything Biden has or will do will generate that kind of optimism - I am familiar with it.

I had similar conversations with co-workers back when GHW Bush was running against Bubba and everyone was falling for he "It's the Economy Stupid!" line.

The industry i was working in was electrical infrastructure. Necessary for the first tier of new construction, commercial and residential, to begin and I kept telling them, "the economy is improving. You're working it." Low and behold, before Bubba got his first under the desk servicing the economy was back on track without him doing a thing.

People see what they want.

No mention of who the other presidents in the country right now might be......
Technically she is correct. He is one of the best presidents in the county right now. In order - Trump, Bush, Carter, Clinton, Obama, and then Biden.

Trump because everything improved during his administration
Bush for his response to 9/11
Carter because he's an all-around nice guy.
Clinton because I don't want to be another suicide statistic
Obama because he has enough brain cells to complete a sentence without getting hung up on "you know, the thing"
Putting Biden in sixth place, but still one of the best on a 1-10 scale.

Reagan was fortunate as he got into office towards the end of the of the inflation cycle with the finishing touches put on by Volker.

His tax breaks really got the economy going.

But a lot of the credit has to goes to the Arabs and their oil embargo, which caused energy prices to go thru the roof.
The results of this embargo was high energy prices, inflation and recession.

The results of the recession were.
1. Corporations went from holding raw materials to just in time deliveries.
2. Much of the featherbedding with the big unions was eliminated with the massive layoffs.
3. Japan introducing compact cars with high gas mileage and reliability which consumers piled into, which made Gm and Ford completely rethink
their product lines and materials used in their production.
4. Layoffs were rampant with all the cost cutting going on.

When Reagan got in the corporations were lean and mean and ready to do expansion whenever the conditions were right for it. His tax breaks were the catalysts that got the economy on track for many years.

Was she an economics major (or minor) like AOC?

I'm not sure what her major was but her degree can't cover up the fact that she's delusional.

So, Does AOC Really Have an Economics Degree From Boston University?

On April Fool’s Day, suddenly everyone (on Twitter, at least) was talking about freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) purported economics degree from Boston University. The conversation began with this tweet:

[deleted]

Ferguson’s tweet was based on a piece at Bastion of Liberty that questioned the following sentence on AOC’s Wikipedia entry:

“Ocasio-Cortez majored in international relations and economics at Boston University, graduating cum laude in 2011.

By viewing Boston University’s degree requirements online, the author concluded that AOC most likely had been awarded a BA in International Relations with a Track in Economics, Business, and Politics:

“NOT an Econ major, although that has been the implied degree in many of the stories written about her. Many of them skate over the actual major, preferring to word the details as though she were a budding Milton Friedman (only smarter and more woke).”

AOC herself has made seemingly different claims. Her website states that “she earned degrees in Economics and International Relations.”

Twitter users on both sides of the argument pointed to a “2019 Distinguished Alumni Award” entry on the Boston University Economics department webpage stating that AOC graduated with a “BA in International Relations and Economics” to prove their point. One side claimed that meant she had degrees in both economics and international relations; the other claimed it meant she had a degree in international relations with a concentration or emphasis in economics.

Either way, it tells you how worthless a degree from Boston University is these days.

“'No career?' I started under Ted Kennedy and served as Educational Director for the National Hispanic Institute" - AOC (tweet 01 Feb 2018)

I wonder if "starting under Ted Kennedy" involved the missionary or the doggie style positions. Maybe she meant the Kamala (knee-pad) position.

Interesting, because right now most talking heads are wringing their hands about how higher and higher inflation is RUINING the economy. If the economy is doing so great, why does someone worry about inflation? If he economy is doing so great, why is the fed jacking up interest rates?

Inflation fundamentally is the result of one simple thing - too much cash chasing too few products. We either have too much cash in the economy or not enough products being created. There's at least one other seriously obvious factor - the high cost of oil and gasoline, which factors into the transport of everything, the creation of energy, manufacturing - and everything. Crank up the cost of gasoline and everything else gets worse - ironically, even the cost to make GREEN TECHNOLOGY.

And one thing has clearly been done - the government has printed a LOT of freaking money. This CAN be useful on a small level - there's a lot of dollars in the world. Print a motherluvin' chitload of cash, and you seriously devalue the dollars in circulation.

I dunno. It's a good school. What it clearly says to me is, you can earn a degree AND still be dumb as a post. SEEN that at my workplace, where people know the technology cold, but fail to understand how things work. In the computer world, there's often the case where the stuff you learned in school is TOTALLY different from the stuff you'll use on the job.
