I asked one of my managers today at Lowe's why we were letting folks in the store without face coverings.
They cut me off and said they did not want to discuss it.

Interesting. Take care, spr. You are a brave soul, and I love your love of innocent animals. 😄

happy to be living
My store, which is offering curb side pick up only, has been visited twice by the state police to make sure I am "in compliance" and don't have 10 people in the store (I wish!!). I wonder if they will be back to make sure we are masked up?
The deputy from a couple days ago said he wants to go back on patrol and do his job instead of checking around for health department violations. He also had paperwork from the governor from March stating the importance of social distancing and washing hands :duh:

Throwing the deuces
I have yet to wear a mask. Next Thursday is when I foresee me having to wear one. I was told I should wear one at work because I deal with the public (and not always the cream of the crop ones). So far, the ones I have dealt with are wearing masks so I haven't had to. I just can't get over how "weird" this whole thing is. Never in my life did I think I would have to wear a surgical mask to get groceries. Never in my life did I think that TP and paper towels would be the "unicorns" of the grocery store.

I hope you realize that wearing a mask is not for YOUR protection; it's for everyone else's.
a) Studies are starting to consistently show that infected people start shedding the virus a couple days before showing symptoms.
b) There is also clear evidence that simply talking does a good job of spraying virus particles around.
c) The virus particles are known to linger in the air for several hours, and be spread around by indoor air circulation.

Are you willing to unwittingly be the person that kills someone by infecting them or their elderly loved ones, even if you didn't know you were sick?

Please wear a mask for the sake of other people around you, even if you don't think you're infectious.

that is HUGE Assumption
I don't think it's an assumption. It's a risk analysis, leading to a simple question. Lots of folks in this town work daily with risk mitigation, called "flight test." How do we do dangerous stuff safely? We analyze risk factors, and control for them. And sometimes we still do risky stuff because the cost of lowering the risk is too high, but the work is too important to not do it. So sometimes we accept risk.

We know it's easy to spread; if you believe many folks on these forums, 15-20% of some populations already have it.

We know it can be spread before symptoms appear, or even by people who never have symptoms.

We know it's lethal to certain people; nursing home infections prove that. Even when not lethal, some 25% of symptomatic infections result in hospitalization.

We know that masks help contain it, because of numerous studies showing infectious particles float in the air for up to 3 hours from people who talk loudly, sneeze, or cough.

So one cost of mitigating that risk is simply wearing a face mask. It's really a pretty easy way of helping the community around us.

Since the result of that risk may easily be deadly, especially to the elderly and immune-compromised, it's a question everyone should ask. Are you PERSONALLY willing to live with the fact that you might unwittingly be the cause of someone else's hospitalization and medical bills and potential death, because you're not taking a simple step?

Seriously?

Maybe the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are the ones who should stay home.

This virus did not pan out to be as deadly as they said it would. I'm not a mathematician, but the numbers are not there - even if we didn't social distance. Taking normal precautions were probably not possible a month ago because of stupid a** people who can't wash their hands and have to stand 12 inches from someone else in line because they have no social graces, not to mention terrible hygiene practices.

If YOU are worried about getting sick - then YOU should by all means STAY HOME. Order everything you need online.

Leave everyone else alone.

The cost of mitigating is NOT JUST WEARING A FACE MASK. It's limiting people in the store, which limits your ability to do what you have to do in a timely manner. It's canceling every activity and event known to man for the forseeable future. It's school years being cancelled. ON and on and on.

It's obviously given you more time to hang around here wagging your finger at everyone and trying to be the Mrs. Kravitz Corona Police to everyone else.

Yup, I sure am. Because it is not my job to ensure another's safety. Now, if I knew I was sick, I'll stay home and get better, or if I knew my health would be compromised because of any underlying condition. However, even then, I would not lock myself in my house. I would still go to work, shopping and the like, but take precautions; eat healthy, take proper supplementations, etc.. The bigger question: Are you willing to go out and possibly catch this bug if you are immunocompromised, have a disease, old, or are otherwise unhealthy?
Also. Has no one taken a biology class? There is no cure for the Common Cold. Various cold viruses mutate too fast. Turn off the fear. Let the herd live.

There will be no vaccine. Here is the list of successful vaccines EVER created for a coronavirus:

Would you like to see that list again?

I WON'T EVER KNOW :dork:

I get in the car and drive to work every day .... I might get into an accident and kill someone, that does not stop me from driving

Random sampling test shows coronavirus more widespread and less deadly than previously thought: Study

I get tested twice a day through my work so I am safer than the average person. If my temp even goes up one degree, I will know.

This will happen to me, when I go back to work, as well.

We already take our temperature at least once a day. The thermometer sits on our kitchen counter.

A Lowe's in Big Flats, NY (near Elmira) was closed today by the county because they were letting way, too many people in the store.
