"The only reason I know about it is, one girl who smokes out here, one morning a contractor came up and handed her some money, and she said she was selling her Metrocheks," said the woman, 49, a Federal Highway Administration employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "I guess free money is free money."
That money isn't free. :smack:

I agree, fire those that abused their benefits.

Even better, end the program. This fraud proves that the subsidy does not work, so it needs to go away. One more socialist program down the drain.

What sucks is how this will probably penalize those who use them appropriately. It needs better auditing, but I hope they don't start making them really hard to get for those who are doing their best to use the benefit as directed.

I AM GUMBY DAMMIT
I work for the federal government and I carpool 50 miles each way and I can't even get a compressed work schedule. These a$$hole that abuse the metrochek system need to be fired.

Especially, since we got this Great Benefit (which amounts to about $1,200/year) instead of the pay mandated by LAW in the "Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act of 1990"... supposedly because there has been a "national emergency or serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare" ... for every year since the law was inacted. OPM reported that in 2000, salaries for federal professionals lagged behind private pay by an average of 32 percent. (http://www.cbo.gov/showdoc.cfm?index=3992&sequence=0)
