Our Great Dane is sick - Advise needed!

Ladybug76

**********
He was there for recovery and physical therapy and had an excellent prognosis. I would go everyday to work with the therapist and to everyone's surprise, he got better. Two days before we were to bring him home, he woke up with his back legs paralyzed (sp?). We decided then to put him down instead of more surgery. The vets wanted to try something new on him but enough was enough.

That must have been awful for you! Our dog has not been the same since she was ill. She is a good, good girl, but she is only five and looks about ten now. It took so much out of her. It was the first time in my adult life that I was faced with the possibility of having to make that decision, and it was terrible.

Prayers again for Isabelle! :flowers:

I have heard wonderful things about the vet school in Raleigh.

Also, this may be a long shot but we purchased our Dane from a family that breeds them in St. Leonard. They are great people and may have some advice as to who to go to. If you search the internet for Titan's Danes you will be able to find them. Good luck!!!

Holistic Vet - Homeopathic Remedies

Hi all,

First off- Thank you all so much for your support throughout Isabelle's illness.

I would especially like to thank Labs4Me. I came across Labs4Me's post while searching for holistic vets, Labs4Me recommended Dr. Chapman as an excellent Holistic/Homeopathic Vet and I couldn't agree more- Sara saved Isabelle's life.

I wanted to let you'll know that Isabelle is going great- Better than i could have ever dreamed. We spent so long watching her go downhill that looking back on the video's that I took, i can't believe she was that bad and in that much pain.

We took Isabelle to a Dr. Sara Chapman on 09/16. We were skeptical at first since neither my husband or I had any experience with Holistic/Homeopathic medicine. Isabelle IMMEDIATELY showed improvement. Isabelle was given a homeopathic remedy for Lymes Disease even though her tests showed negative, and Izzy was also treated for Immunization reactions, and was given accupuncture to help with the pain and stress of being sick. Isabelle's spine is also out of alignment which is why she has those bumps on her spine. The bumps have gone down drastically and hopefully Dr. Lundquist can help her with that. The vet's here had said there was nothing wrong with her spine.

I am attaching an email I received from Dr. Sara Chapman that has very informative information on Immunizations and such. I recommend that you read it. It has truly opened my eyes to alot of things.

Isabelle was sick for 5+ months, costing over $6,000 and the entire time Isabelle was still sick, getting sicker every day, and in pain. One visit to a Holistic Vet at the cost of $210 and we have our baby back and she is so happy now that I can't even express enough how grateful we are to Sara. Isabelle has a Chiropractic appointment on Oct. 6th with Dr. Carol Lundquist and I can't wait to see what she can do for Isabelle.

Dear Michelle,
I am delighted to hear that Isabelle is doing well. You did absolutely the right thing by discontinuing the Tramadol. I think Izzy is telling you pretty decisively that she doesn't need it! In fact, we will probably want to start decreasing the dose of her drop of Silicea. Start skipping doses if she seems quite perky and comfortable. I wouldn't skip more than one day at a time for the first week; every other day, or even every day if she still seems to need it. We want to let Izzy's behaviour and attitude tell us how frequently we should give the remedy.

That's excellent that you won't have such a long drive to Dr. Lundquist. I had forgotten that she got out your way for barn calls. That should work out nicely, and I will be very interested to hear what she finds with your little girl.

There is a lot of information out there about vaccinations, some of it a bit sensational. The web site below is pretty balanced, and has information from vets in the field of immunology. Dr. Schultz and Dr. Dodds are both well known and respected in the conventional veterinary community as well as the holistic community. We vets have access to sites where internal medicine specialists describe the problems of excess vaccination, and the questionable wisdom of giving Lepto or Lyme vaccines at all. Unfortunately, the drug companies spend a lot of time selling the vaccines to vets, so unless vets look for this information, they'll go along with the drug companies. People really need to be proactive and research health care for themselves. In the US, drug companies and insurance companies push drugs and treatments, as is evident from the ads on the TV!

Pet Vaccination danger - adverse reaction to routine vaccination

Your email really gave my day a boost. I can picture your little girl bouncing around, and it makes me smile. Do keep me posted.
Regards,
Sara

OMG I don't know who to feel bad for your family or poor Izzy!! When I seen her getting off the couch I had to turn it off and sat here and cried for your poor lil girl!!! As the owner of a sick Boxer I know what a burden on your heart and money it can be but we have never had to go anything as extreme as you have. I was so happy to see Izzy in your third video!!! I think I will have to check them out. Poor Mopar has went through so much in his 3 years and lots of dollars later we just make do sometimes and take the good days when we get them. Mopar is the product of a back yard breeder and we have learned so much with him but wouldn't trade him for anything!!! Good luck with Izzy!!!
