Ourisman Chevrolet in Bowie is safe

In My Opinion
Just picked up a new air filter for the truck, guy at the parts counter said they were the only Chevy dealer in a 30 mile radius that was not going to be closing.
If its true, its really going to hurt the Chevy brand. If Im looking for a new car, Im not driving 30 miles past a ford dealer just to get the GM.
Oh well, at least for once Im within a couple miles of the one that gets to stay.

by the way, maybe if GM would be more reasonable with their prices they could get more business.
Filter, had to get it there because non of the parts places claimed to have it in stock, 68.00.
One parts place said they could get it before 5, but their price was 112.00, I suspect they were going to drive over to the dealer and pick up the same one I got.

that is not entirely true. I work for a Chevrolet/Cadillac dealership in Waldorf and we are not going anywhere!

But you wouldn't be. The furthest you could be is 15 miles.

Not true.. I they are the only ones staying OPEN in a 30 mile radius.. That means the next closest dealership has to be OVER 30 miles..

The next closest open dealer could be 31 miles away, or it could be 300 miles away.

He could drive by a Ford dealer and than have to drive another 50 to get to the Chevy dealer..

Does "the only... not going to be closing" NOT imply staying open? Establishing the radius of "30 miles" also implies that the next open one would be at the boundary of that radius - a bit short of 300 mi. away.

Nope.. the boundary was for closing dealers.. nowhere was it explained where the open ones were in the past.

AND you could still have one at 30 miles.. But if it's 30 miles NORTH of the dealer, and you live 60 miles South of the dealership, and the Ford dealer is inline between you and the referenced dealership.. it's possible for you to drive by the Ford dealership another 30 miles ot get to the Chevy Dealer.

There could be another open dealer with 10 miles of the Ourisman dealership, but it would still be possible to drive past a FOrd dealer AND drive another 30 miles to get to either of the open dealers..

Just not enough information provided to find out what the "Truth" case is.

I would all but guarantee that that's not true. Someone is talking out of their you know what - probably just repeating something they heard someone say somewhere. There are probably 20 chevy dealers within a 30 mile radius of Bowie.

Nobody knows for sure exactly which dealers are closing - not all of them anyway - so the guy at Ourisman wouldn't know for sure. GM didn't release a list, and is leaving it up to the individual dealerships to disclose that information. Some of them will no doubt handle the situation differently than others. I'm sure some have already told people, especially their employees, and some probably haven't yet. They won't actually have to close for over a year, so they might be inclined to put off telling people as long as they can get away with not doing so (which might not be much longer).

I'm sure different sources will try to confirm which dealers are going to be closing, and compile a list - but they wouldn't have an accurate and comprehensive list yet (unless it was required in a recent bankruptcy filing, and I haven't seen anything to that effect yet).

At any rate, I'd be willing to make a significant wager that there are multiple Chevy dealerships, within 30 miles of Bowie, still open in 2011.

I wouldn't bet ANY Chevy dealers will be left come 2011..

IF they make it to 2012 they MAY have a chance, I don't see US GM making it to 2012.

We'll all be driving Toyotas and Hondas.

 Maybe I should stipulate, IF Ourisman Chevrolet of Bowie is still open in 2011, then there will be multiple other Chevy dealerships, within a 30 mile radius from their location, still open.

Which was not bcp's point anyway. I noticed one logical hiccup and thought it was amusing. If you want to dig deeper into it, have fun. :howdy:

I may still be driving a GM car or truck in 2012, but it wont be a new one, I have bought my last GM product.
