City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said three bull Arab mastiff dogs had been impounded but investigations were continuing into whether three other dogs, including a German shepherd and a red cloud kelpie, were involved in the attack.

"The other dogs had gone when our ranger got on site," Mr Sammels said today.

He said the child was attacked "quite savagely and brutally" after she wandered away from her father, who was cleaning a bus.

The owner of the dogs was visiting his father at the address where the attack occurred, which was posted with "Beware of the dog" signs.

He said no charges had yet been laid and no decision had been made on the future of the three dogs.

Maybe the father should be charged with neglect for not watching his 6 y/o child?

I agree with you FF..the father should be charged he should have had his daughter right next to him at all times especially at the age of 6.

It was explained to me by my insurance agent that a "Beware of Dog" sign can be considered as an indication you are aware your dog is a danger and it could be used against you in civil court.

That's just not right but we are living in a sue happy society.
A dog, no matter how normally friendly, may become aggresive towards someone walking into his yard unnanounced or uninvited! Most dogs are territorial and will defend his property and or his owners.

Thanks for the info. I was considering getting a "Beware of Dog" sign for my mom's new dog I just got her. He's a whopping 4 lbs. I was hoping it would make a criminal think twice about messing with my mom, but I don't want to open her up to a lawsuit. Guess that 4 lb pom better learn a deeper bark instead.

For the same reason dumb a$$ parents allow their children to run up to a strange dog on a leash and pet it without asking permission or inquiring rather the dog is friendly or not.

true.... I myself... have no problem with kids petting my dogs... but at the same time I would like to let them know my dogs limitations.

my one doesnt care.... but with one of them.. the way you hold your hand makes her think you have treats... and will try to take treats .. she is not gentle with treats.... also she doesnt like hugs..(as most pets dont like hugs from strangers...)... and I NEVER LET HER GIVE PEOPLE KISSES...

are you kidding me? so if you have a sign up saying "deaf child", like some neighborhoods do, someobody can can argue, that hey, "if you know your kid is deaf, don't let them out where they can't hear cars".

hell yeah people put up "beware of dog" because they know their dog can be dangerous. means stay the eff away. People pay good money for security dogs. friggin insurance companies.

. I know what you mean. My girl was very friendly and great with kids, thank goodness. But it just always amazed me how parents just didnt seem to care, unless of course the kid got bit. The kisses always amaze me too, I always want to ask them " do you go around kissing strangers on the lips too?"

Either this makes no sense or I'm just dum.

Guy owns the dogs and took them to visit his father, who just happened to have a Beware sign? Or the dogs live with the father and the guy who really owns them was visiting?

Does it say whether the attack occurred on the dogs' property or the little girl's, or somewhere else?

I hate these sensational stories that give you very little information.
