Painting a Split Log Cabin Style House

Our house will need to be painted next year. Every two years from what I've been told and it was done right before we bought it last year. The previous owners painted it this terrible rusty doo doo brown color. It's horrid. The other half has pretty much given me artistic freedom on the entire house but we are totally going head to head over the outside color. We both agree that if all the paint can be stripped off and the natural wood looks good than we'll seal the wood and go with that.

We have a feeling that there is a reason that the house was painted a color to begin with, repairs or something. He thinks that we should go with something rustic in the brown family. I am totally opposed. I drive through the neighborhood and see a lot of wood houses painted various shades of brown and hate them all. Ours is a shade of brown and it's horrid.

I want non-traditional for a split log. A very pale butter yellow. I haven't looked at all the exterior colors available but looking at other houses in the neighborhood I haven't seen anything else I like on any other house. I came up with the yellow myself. Baring yellow the only other color I think may look decent is a light sage green but even that is questionable.

He thinks it would be totally tacky to paint a wood house anything other than brown. What's the popular opinion on this. I'd especially like to hear from people with wood sided houses and those who have seen my house.

Are you going to paint over the roaches or just looking for a color that will make them stand out so you can spot them quicker? :lmao: :huggy:

Strip the paint and then use a wood stain w/ water protectant to add color to the natural wood. A nice redwood color would look nice. The stain will last longer than paint. You could apply it with a garden sprayer (pump up the tank type, not hose end) as long as you mask/protect the areas you don't want stained. Then, every year or 2 you could re-treat with a clear water repellant like Thompsons Water Seal as long as the color was still good.

After confirming what they were I called the other half and told him. He was about as happy as I was. :jameo: Maybe I should leave it the color it is. The one last night did blend well and they do say that ignorance is bliss. :lmao:

Be about it
I think a pale butter yellow would look nice - especially w/the right flower bed accents in front of the house.

Painting a Split Log Ca... 06-12-2006 02:19 PM Not only can you not solve your own problems – you cannot spell either.

You're so full of insight! So wise! :snacks: How can I be like you?

Here's a couple words of wisdom for you since you insisted on sharing yours with me. Nothing I've posted today I'd consider a "problem" in my life. If you think I should consider them as such you should consider professional help yourself.

If I had a dollar for every time I've publicly said I can't spell worth a damn I'd be a rich biatch right now. I can't spell; you obviously have no balls. I'd rather be me than you. :yay:

That sounds like a lot of work, but a nice way to go.
