Pallet Furniture

There is a man around the block from me that starts collecting pallets in August for his Halloween display. Then when he cuts those down, he starts collecting more for his Christmas display. Last year he did a full Nativity and a tribute to the children killed in Newtown. I've seen him do different displays for Halloween and Christmas for 3 years and they are always different and amazing. Not sure what he does with the wood when he's done, but at night I do smell something similar to a campfire.

Would like to see pictures of that.
I'm finding that pallets are mostly made of oak and pine.

My daughter took pics at Christmas, I'll see if she still has them.

It works but I should have thought about it a little bit first. Scrap plank blues.

Todays project and a few more rough ideas left for another day. Wife clear coated her bench. Going to wait a few days to let it cure before it's assembled.

Ok, where do you guys *get* pallets? Every place we ask say, they don't give them away at all.

not sure about up there, but most places down here stack them and pretty much let people take what they want, they are so plentiful. We sometimes grab 1 or 2 to cut up kindling when we go camping.

Business parks and strip malls are your best bet. Not the big commercial stores but the out of the way production/office sites. Look for the places with just a couple sitting near the dumpster. Chances are, they're not reusing and are happy to let you have them. The business park in Prince Fredrick was picked clean this weekend.

We're fortunate that the wife has access to somewhat clean ones through her work.

I find them at construction sites in my travels through the week too. Can usually get an extra piece of 2x4 or two as well. Have any new houses going up around you?
