Thank you. Very helpful. I have Panda on my desktop, but recently got a laptop. I could transfer Panda over, but I think I'll go with McAfee on the new machine.

Looks like I'll be taking my old laptop to the 301 Computer place to be fixed. I can only HOPE it doesn't cost more than $100.

what? so far none of the helpful tips I've received has resulted in me getting back into my laptop files. So I will have to resort to paying someone. I NEED those files because I have not had time redo the 1023 I need to send to the IRS. I had many months of dedicated time/effort into that document. I guess it was stupid to not backup the files but I tend to get confused when I have multiple copies of files.
