Pantyhose

Sweet 16

Kate Middleton brings back pantyhose.

Does anyone still wear them? I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even know they had gone out of style and that I still have some in my sock drawer, although I haven't worn them in quite a long time (I usually wear pants or capris to work nowadays and dresses only on special occasions). I always hated hose but as recently as the last decade they were mandatory in my workplace. And what's the protocol -- do you still go bare-legged if you wear a dress in Winter? Brrrrrrrrr!

P.S. I put this in News because apparently it is.

I still wear them if I wear a suit or any kind of formal dress. I know they are not in style but I think it looks more polished when you wear them.

Call me old fashioned. :coffee:

Rarely do I see any women here in D.C. wearing them in the summer. If protocol changes it'll have to change without me.

I wear hose with any "nice" dress or skirt. Anything other than sundresses. I like the shiny and sheer kind. I LOVE the kind with the seem down the leg..but those are kinda sexy for work..but I would def wear them to a formal occasion

nobody really

I need a nap
very rare that i wear them. only on more formal occassions, or with dress pants in the winter, just for warmth. They are a pain in the ass. and hell no to wearing them in the summer.

but i heard mesh nude stockings are in.

Do you like apples?
Being "out of style", I suppose the only people buying pantyhose now are bank robbers! :lmao:

IMO, it all depends on the outfit a woman is wearing - works with some but not with others. Including stockings can add a sexy element to her look. I suppose it all comes down to what type of look she's trying to convey.

Personally I've never objected to seeing a woman wearing thigh-highs with a garter but then that's not usually considered appropriate work attire. :killingme

I wish I could wear pantyhose, I'd wear them in the summer if I could find them in my shade! I suffer from being pale and splotchy. It's impossible to find them in a shade that doesn't look ridiculous on me :(

I can only imagine what girls with freckles have to deal with if they want to find some kind of pantyhose to wear.

When did they go out of style? I admit I don't work where I have to wear them anymore and I hated them when I did. But to me, nothing looks worse than a nice office outfit with bare, pasty legs.

That's what I was wondering, but according to this article, they did. So either young women aren't wearing suits to the office anymore, or they're wearing them without pantyhose. Ick!

If one were to wear a suit, why would they need pantyhose?

I think she's talking about skirt-suits. And I rarely see those anymore. It's usually pants/skirt and a blouse, but I don't really pay attention to whether or not they're wearing anything on their legs or not. In this weather I could understand skipping the pantyhose, or if they have a very nice, even skin tone.

A suit that is a skirt. In fact I think any dress or skirt should be worn with hose (at work, unless it is a casual office). I think it looks trashy and that you don't know how to dress if you don't. Can't blame the heat, work places have A/C, along with nearly every car. If not, put the hose on when you get to work. Guys don't go to the office without their ties or socks just because it's hot.

All of my suits are skirt suits.

I can't believe I just said all that. I don't even want to shave my legs, much less wear pantyhose!

It's kinda casual in this office, and the smokers do stand outside for a bit in the heat.

I'm lucky, you can hardly tell when I don't shave :)

I very rarely wear the mesh nude colored hose in the cooler weather. I wear at least 2-3 dresses to work a week and never wear hose. I work with women well into their 40s and 50s and can only think of one that wears them and she's got a stuffy sense of style.

I agree, unless they wear pantyhose with open toe shoes or sandals.

Thank God you said it. Nothing worse than that! yes, some of us Menz actually look at these things to include last months polish that some ladies are waiting to finish wearing off. nasty!
