More than 46,000 in attendance.

This moment is just amazing. There probably won't be another papal mass in America for, possibly decades.

It won't be that long. In fact, there will be another one in a couple of days but after that, it still won't be "decades" before the next one.

Is a mass performed by the Pope any more effective or powerful or whatever than a regular mass performed by a regular priest? I don't get all the hype.

It's the Pope...... in America..... In Washington.....

I'm not a catholic but I am so intrigued by the whole Papal election process, and the politics of the Catholic church. The whole thing is just breathtaking.

No.

It's like the difference between having a town constable over to your dinner on Sunday, versus having the President over to your house for dinner on Sunday.

The dinner doesn't fill your belly any better, but still.

What's intriguing and breathtaking to me is all the evils perpetrated by the Papacy through the ages and all the wealth and treasures amassed by the institution while millions of the flock go hungry and live in shanties. It's perverted hypocrisy at it's finest.

What do you propose they do with all their "wealth and treasures"?

the unfortunate truth is that it's generally easier to get people to show up for entetainment than for religion. keep in mind though, that is the max capacit of the stadium. how many more people do you think wanted to attend but couldn't get tickets. I can name a couple dozen at last!

In My Opinion
Oh, how I wish I could be there. What a holy man, what a man of God.
work with me here, Im not Catholic.
what makes him so holy? such a man of God?

if that were true do you think he might have done something about the perv priests before he was forced by the public outcry? dont you think God would have bieatch slapped him and made him do something about it?

Personally, I think of the pope like the CEO of the Catholic church, and like any businessman, he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his company rich.

Last one that really thought he was all that ended up on a cross,, of course, he really was all that.

Why don't you take this question over to the religion forum? Clearly you have no understanding of who/what the Holy Father is to Catholics, and I doubt you care. However, I encourage you, in all your judgements of people, to consider the rule and not the exceptions. Most popes have been very holy men, and so have priests in general. Five rogue popes out of 264. That's a better ratio than one rogue apostle out of twelve, so if "he really was all that" and He allowed Judas, perhaps there is another reason He didn't "slap him" and make him do something about it.
Arguing the exception shows that you are not looking to discuss or learn, and that you're only trying to make your case with whatever scant information you can come up with.
