Passing Cops...

Driving all over this great nation of ours for work I have passed alot of cops. If I am doing the speed limit and catch up to them I dont hesitate to pull out and pass. The only time you can not pass an officer while doing the speed limit is when they have their Emergency lights on. There is no law that says you can't pass.. Same thing for police officers from other counties If not up to speed pass them...

Right, but if a cop is traveling above the speed limit by 5 or even 10 over out in front he/she is basically giving the public that 5 or 10. I doubt you will get pulled over following in the draft. (unless your riding the bumper) But pass the cop when he/she is already giving you that 5 or 10..... you probably will get pulled over. I'm not saying its right but I bet it will happen....try it and found out??

Driving stupid and speeding past him is disrespectful. Passing him is not...especially if you're not breaking any laws. Chances are, he's probably driving slow to eat something on the run, converse on the radio or phone.

Whats disrespectful is if YOU are holding up a cop and won't GTF over in the right lane so he can pass. I see that crap all the time. If you're in the right lane and see this...make a damn hole so folks can get over too! Amazes me how stupid people are when a cop gets behind them...they'll slow down to 45-50, and freak out/get scared.

The wife told me that a cop will always stay in the left lane because passing on the right is illegal and he will never pass anyone on the right - so yeah people - get out of his way and make our commute a little enjoyable! :)

Passing on the right, in and of itself, is NOT illegal. UNSAFE passing on the right IS illegal. The officer would have to be able to prove what was unsafe about it.

Well, I think posting this thread gave me bad juju. Heading home last night, right before the 2/4 split (southbound), people were in that "normal" formation - two people in the lead not letting anyone pass doing 50-55, I got a break on the downhill slope and took off... as soon as I did, I saw him - Smokey!

Well, knowing there was nooooooo way that he didn't see me, I just headed right over to the shoulder. I got going a little faster than I thought though... I won't tell you how fast I was going (because he might be reading these forums - you never know) - but he was nice and gave me a break, but I still have a $160 ticket to worry about.

However, I've heard going to court for a speeding ticket, no matter the case, will get it knocked down a little bit, or at least they'll give you PBJ. Is this true? Has anyone had a big speeding ticket they needed to get out of?

Passing cops while splitting lanes doing a stand-up wheelie is generaly considered bad form. Don't ask how I know this...

True (and there are alot of Ford Explorer out there) but I've decided that the good cops of southern maryland were sweet enough to give me a personal escort home to make sure I made it safetly. Thanks SOMD's Finest! :yay: And I feel safer knowing they're looking out for me.

Attention Mr. Police Man: I'll be heading outta work about 4 today, can I get a personel escort again, it really did make me feel secure knowing you were there.
Escort for crying out loud. Not excort. :banghead:

I had a cop follow me last night from Pegg Road all the way down route 246 to the intersection of route 5. Right before the intersection he got in the left lane (I was in the right lane) and we both made a right at the light. Now he's in front of me. Half way up the hill, across from Dyson's he suddenly pulls over to the side of the road. I drive past, he gets behind me again. Follows me all the way to my neighborhood. I pull in, he turns behind me. I drive to my house, he passes by. WTF? I wasn't speeding, had my seat belt on, wasn't drunk or impaired, and used turn signals and stopped at the red lights. Was he just looking for a reason to pull me over? I think he was profiling :lmao:

My bf works nights at Pax River and has this happen to him all the time. He is scared to death to drive home because he says there are always bored cops out looking for something to do. He leaves for home about midnight and has been followed around several times.
