Only if you fly to the Bahamas. If you're there on a port visit as part of a cruise, your ship's room key card is enough. In the last 8 months, I've been to The Bahamas via both modes of transportation. On the port visit, no passport was needed but we did have them with us. When we flew in, we needed our passports for customs at the airport.
I visited the Bahamas in August on a cruise and needed to show my passport in Nassau before I was even in the line for the ship. I'm sure they would have taken another form of ID, but it just so happened they asked for passports.
