Passport/Cruise

Only if you fly to the Bahamas. If you're there on a port visit as part of a cruise, your ship's room key card is enough. In the last 8 months, I've been to The Bahamas via both modes of transportation. On the port visit, no passport was needed but we did have them with us. When we flew in, we needed our passports for customs at the airport.

I visited the Bahamas in August on a cruise and needed to show my passport in Nassau before I was even in the line for the ship. I'm sure they would have taken another form of ID, but it just so happened they asked for passports.

That's strange. They just wanted to see our ship cards.

I'm pretty sure most people are required to fill out information prior to their cruise that includes information such as the passport info, so you have to have something on hand to fill out even if you don't bring it with you. From there, I guess you may not always be required to show it at each port (like many of you have said, your cruise card is usually what they ask for since most of the Caribbean countries don't really care), but they can always ask you for it. I don't remember if I needed to show it when I check into a cruise, but I'm pretty sure it's required upon re-entering the US when you hit customs at the end of the cruise. :yay:

I just came back from a Carribean cruise on holland america (MS amsterdam) . When we went to board the ship in florida they made us show our passports and ship boarding pass and when we came back to florida we had to let them check our roomkey one last time and have our passports in hand as we had to go through customs in florida once we got back as we traveled to the bahamas and carribean. most of the time they make a pa announcement each day on the ship as to what you will need when you get to each of your ports wether it be your room key and passport or room key and drivers license. The ship i was on every am the cruise director would get on and tell us the first half of the days activites that were going on on the ship and if we were in a port she would tells us where to go to get off the ship to go sightseeing etc.

I hope you have fun on your cruise. This was my first cruise and I had a blast. I am hoping to start to go on one a year or one every other year.

I got my passport through the La Plata Post Office... and only took 2-3 weeks to get it back.. I had my pic taken at a CVS..

Ive never been on a cruise, but planning one for our 40th anniversary. Is a passport needed for locations in the Carribbean, Ive heard some places you dont need one, but that doesnt sound right unless its the Virgin Islands. I understand you can get your passport photo at some post offices? Is it best to go to a travel agent and have him arrange everything and what do the fee's cost for using him, or call these places you see in the travel sections in the paper that just has a phone number.
Im looking to go around late March or April and leave from Baltimore.

Any help with my questions would be greatly appreciated.

I applied yesterday at the Bryantown Post Office, had my picture taken there too. Hopefully it will only take 2-3 weeks to get it back, but I have till the end of April before I will need it.
