Patio door

The lock is broken on my sliding glass door. It works, but there is a spring broken inside that holds the latch in the open position. Now when you go to shut it you have to manually push the latch up. It's a Pella door with, I just learned, a built-in-frame mortised lock. I can get the part no problem, but I can't figure how to get the lock out. It's screwed into the wood that's under the vinyl covering so I have to get that off somehow. Any ideas? I've tryed gently prying in a few likely places, but nothing popped off.

Look at the top of the door, there may be a slit where the top vinyl and the side meet. Also there may be a clip arrangement.

This website shows the internal pieces of the mechanism. Might help you make sense of how its in and help figure out how to get it apart. Just might have to take door off track and lay iit flat. Good luck.

Well, I called the nice lady at Pella this morning and they are shipping the latch out asap. No charge. The only hard part is she wanted the s/n of the window. It is in tiny letters and numbers at the bottom of the glass, so I'm laying on my stomach with a flashlight, magnifying glasses and the phone reading the 20 character s/n to her.

Oh, let me add to this. I had gone to Lowes and they said they could order it and it would be $37, I said I'd get back to him. I went to True Value in Solomons and the guy said he didn't have it, but if I knew the name he could look it up. I said Pella and he said just call them and they'll send it right out, no charge. Now, why didn't the guy at Lowes volunteer that little bit of info?
