Just as a note I never got mad or pissed, just needed to comment.
You've mentioned numerous times you were not mad, just needed to comment. A word for the wise - ending a comment with "WTF" frequently happens when the author is mad or pissed.
Just needed to comment.

Do you know how many people "express" their opinion to the guards, debate the subject with them?
With the current OOVID-19 panic, policy has been fluid, as with a lot of things, each command gets "guidance" which they turn into their policy.
The Navy Yard puts out guidance to the base commanding officer. Each tenant command has their policy, even groups within the command.
A lot of confusion. I've heard some interesting "debates" over the years while waiting on line.
Right now all visitors, regardless of status as a dependent, have to be put in BASICS for a visitor request.
We are not permitted to admit visitors (family members) to our building (escorted or not) without them going through pass and ID.

OK, but why are they confiscating my retired ID until I turn around. I guess like the first poster said in a sense INSANE. So I guess its best for all to know who did not get the memo, now they need a visitor pass for all their visiting family or non ID kids that were forced to come back home do to corona. I hope the pass is more than just one day. I just posted the thread for information, thanks all.
I actually saw someone that was supposed to turn around drive straight on before.

Reading your original post without snark
WHY: Because the current COVID-19 HealthCon requires all people entering to have government ID.
No more escorting guests on base or into buildings,

As for holding the ID, I left my CAC in my computer and had to turn around.
They took my driver's license and after I was turned around, they handed it back.
May I add, I had on a badge from the PMA that identified me as government, with a picture.
I still had to go to pass and ID

That may only apply to non-work related visitors. What we were told is if you have a visitor... meaning a vendor visit. Now that could have been part of the back to work phase in. Training is still on going. Employees are not allowed back into the buildings if they have not completed training and agree to comply with the guidelines (rules).
As far as I can tell there is no mandate for people to report back in, telework is still an option.
But guidelines change daily if not more frequent.
