Patuxent river commissary CHANGES

Suz

33 yrs & we r still n luv
ok. The prices sometimes cant be beat. especially on dry goods, staples (canned tomatoes, milk, bread, cereal etc. Even on meat sometimes.

Yet we still get a 5% surcharge on everything. And now you can buy their enviromentally green reusable grocery bags for 70 cents a pop and avoid the question of 'paper or plastic'.

Guess what else is new as of today. 4 or 5 stations of SELF CHECKOUT. Yeah for the mere use of them you get to bag your own purchase's and pay the surcharge. AND CART THEM TO YOUR CAR!! But wait. No you no longer need to tip the bagger or make sure the cold items are bagged together etc.

So what do ya'll think that shop there? Myself, if i'm in a hurry and only have a few items I'll give it a try. If it's a huge shopping trip, I going to a registar with a real person taking care of me.

thoughts, critisisims, ideas?

:lmao:Too funny! I know the kind of people you are taking about. They defeat the whole purpose of trying to get out of there quickly.

I'm not a huge fan of self-checkouts because I think they take away jobs from people who need them. I think they are an excuse for a business to be understaffed in most cases. I would be interested to see how many fewer cashiers they need for each self-checkout. Although it may be a good idea for the lunch time rush, etc. I'm for anything that gets me out of the store faster!

I don't go to the commissary for one or two things so I probably wouldn't use it.

Self checkout is evil, and ought to be outlawed. I'm serious, I think it is horrible and a travesty to human dignity. It makes us slaves to the machines. I absolutely refuse to use self-checkout *ever*.

Watch it
I shall never complain about anything at the commissary after seeing how much $ I save there. :lmao:

As for the self checkout lanes- I probably won't ever use them because I normally have a full cart and prefer somebody else do it. Plus, those lanes tend to attract people who make scanning an item rocket science. :lmao:

As for the bags, I'm not sure about that. Target is selling "green bags". They say if it catches on enough, they'll start giving some sort of discount when you use them. ? Wonder if it'll happen.

I am so very blessed
I love the ground beef at the Commissary. VERY lean and it actually tastes great.

The price of milk is a real money saver, too.

I didn't realize there was a commisary on base. Is there one at every military base? Can non-Navy people use it (i.e. Air Force or Army that live in the area but not stationed at PAX)?

If you have a military ID you can get into the commisary. I've seen AirForce, Army, etc., that are temporarily at Pax, in the commisary.

If you are a active duty, retired, or dependant individual with a Military ID Card (actually a US Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card - DD form 1173) with the Commissary identified as a place of "Authorized Patronage", then you can use the facility.

Bob is a retired Army dude, but was never stationed at Pax, but because of his miltary service, he has base privileges, as does his family until a certain age [I think 22 of the kids are still in college, for instance].

I am uncertain of all bases have a Commissary, Exchange, or MWR facilities, but certainly the larger bases do.

I'd like to see RFID tags on all groceries .. you walk through a scanner, it totals up all your stuff .... you swipe your card or put cash in the machine , and Boom your gone .... I believe stores are already doing this / experimenting with this in the UK
