Pax River MSF Course

If interested you call the instructor directly now. 410-474-1517.
He advised me that, yes, the course must be retaken every 3 years and that they are booked though August. I don't really mind doing it, but I think it's BS. Plus all it takes is one little screw up and you lose the card. Lets face it they don't really care about contractors enough to let us use all the facilities so why do they care if we can ride worth a crap? He even said I needed the advanced course since I had already been through the advanced.

Anyway there's a phone#. That's all I started out to post.

Yeah, got the email. Have to take my card to them tomorrow to prove I've taken it. And then every three years lose a day of work/leave to renew it. This is such a crock of crap. And if you're a crotch rocket rider, you've got to take the sport bike course. 32 fatalities for the Navy and 30 of them were sport bikes.

I didn't get an email. Who from? When you taking it?

Already took it. Blanket news email. Called Base Safety for the rest of the info.

Oh, that's right, you're good for a while. I'm expecting a hassle when I get my new # for the M/C base sticker in Sept. I'm sure they'll say, well since your MSF is only good until Nov. we can only give you a temporary pass or some crap like that.

They would have to start in the Spring and run 2 courses a week to keep up with the amount of bikes on base.

Maybe I'll get one and then I get two days off work to go riding. How come, since it is a base requirement do you not get paid for taking this time off? It should be like going to the base theater for safety training. Or taking off a while to get your CAC card renewed.

I think they're planning on adding more classes. A friend of mine is training at Andrews to become an instructor.

The guy I took it from said most of the instructors quit. He was doing courses from DC to Indian Head, Dahlgren and Pax.

It is going to be a cluster.

Okay, did some digging. Relevant instruction is the newly promulgated OPNAV 5100.12H, dated 7 MAR 2008.

Relevant section is on pages 11 and 12, para 13, buts its actually a bit fuzzy when it comes to defining whos who. Theres three categories listed.

Military
DOD civilian personnel
"All Individuals"

Now, where do contractors fall under this? From all I know, they are NOT DOD civpers. Theres more to the below, I'm just quoting the bits I feel are relevant...

Subpara 3. All military who operate on and off base, and civpers who operate on base shall complete course prior to operating these vehicles.

Subpara 6. All individuals must complete course to obtain a base decal.

Subpara b. "Recertification": All military personnnel who operate on/off base, and all DOD civpers who operate on base shall complete experienced course or additional COMNAVSAFCEN approved course every three years.

So, thats what I have.

I think some are still military only. Haven't tried for a while. Last time I got my new number for the decal the guy asked to see my MSF card, I was like, well how do you think I even got a sticker without it? He said he thought it was dumb too, but they had to do it.
