The new cuts are set to be large ones – a 20 percent decrease in the workforce has been ordered by Secretary of the Navy for Patuxent River, St. Inigoes, and Indian Head.

That’s a huge reduction – and it’s a cut that will be a reduction in workforce rather than machinery.

It will likely mean a loss of 3,000 to 4,000 jobs for Southern Maryland. Contractors may have to reduce by 25 percent and there may be some civilian positions becoming available. It may even mean a 25 percent cut with five percent being hired back in Civil Service, one insider told The Bay Net. Also, there’s the possibility that those who retain their jobs will be obliged to accept pay-cuts.

Anyone attend this meeting??

It's the first year Steny has admitted he can't do anything about it. That alone concerns me.

You mean all of the "Keep NESEA Here" stickers? Then Steny bragging about how he saved NESEA? And then NESEA went away?

No, they have a new building back at gate 3 of Pax. Still haven't moved in yet. Not sure when they are coming down here. I had heard its like 200-300 people for it. So we will see.

The name NESEA might have been replaced but the base didn't close down.

I'm pretty sure most of these "cuts" will be attrition rather than firings. The story sounds like we'd better get out houses on the market and get our resumes in order.

:yeahthat: They've had like one weekend event with buses and the whole nine yards once since they've built the place. Lately I've at least seen one or two cars there during the week, so maybe they are getting closer.

Last year they discussed Webster blending with Norfolk. It was decided that was not cost efficient.
And yes, the National Guard was offered space at Webster and will be moving there. They originally approached Pax River and may also have some space there near Gate 3. They will be constructing a hangar near the front gate of Webster.

The point is last year Steny was "I will make this happen", this year he's not. To me it means the deal is already done, just like its already done before he "saves" us.

It looks like a done deal to me. He's just preparing us for the fallout.
