Personal Trainer

I'm getting pretty frustrated. I've put my name on the list at World gym in Wildewood three times. The first two times no one called. The last time someone DID call back and we played phone tag for a while but never actually got to talk to each other. My husband picked out a personal trainer from the list on their website so I called the Lexington Park gym and was told he'd call us back. He never called. I called back and another person told me that trainer had gone back to school and wasn't working with them anymore. I explained that I was getting pretty frustrated with this so he told me he'd leave my name and number for a supervisor or owner or someone but AGAIN no one called.

Would someone please help me find a personal trainer? Or at least help me figure out how to find one on my own? Signing up at the gym and waiting just doesn't seem to be working for me.

I signed up for World Gym Prince Frederick at the end of December. I am still waiting on a personal trainer to get back with me. They are suppose to meet up with you to show you how to use the machines. They are also suppose to weigh you and take your measurments. I still go to the gym but am no longer expecting a phone call.

I know a few people that do the P90x and Insanity and they all rave about it. I'm just not totally sold on it. Yet. I like to be out away from my house and all the distractions...like my dogs that can't seem to understand that I don't want them to come lay on my yoga mat with me.

I'm also kinda interested in the Crossfit....

I just need something different.

Yeah, I signed up back when they were having those Dismal Swamp fires and I needed a place to run indoors. I was promised all that but never got it either.

See I'm the opposite, I can't stand working out with a bunch of other people, too many distractions in a big box gym. Plus you don't have to deal with judgemental asses that think they are the be all and end of all of physical exercise and insist that you are doing not enough reps or you have bad form yada yada. My 3 yr old likes to bring his toys into the gym and play with them in there so I feel your "dogs on the yoga mat" pain.

Your dogs, -"But Mommy, you ARE doing downward dog."

What does a personal trainer do for you besides show you how to use the equipment and free weights? I've learned by taking classes and from others in the gym.

I think that's what they're supposed to do when you first join a gym so you know how to properly use their equipment. My friend meets with a personal trainer once a week. They go over her progress, her goals, and she gets a plan to work on for the rest of the week. If she has any problems or she feels she's really doing well or not doing well in a certain area, they figure it out. She still does the actual gym work on her own for the most part, her trainer just does all the research and planning to help her achieve her goals.

Most importantly, she's been very successful. She finds it challenging, stimulating, and fun. I hope to find something similar here in our local area.

When I signed up there a couple years ago, a trainer called me right away to schedule an appointment with her. Then she didn't bother to show up. Guess she was busy bleaching her ridiculously long extensions white and getting her orange tan. :killingme

I will say this - I told them at the desk how unprofessional I thought it was and they promised a different trainer would call me, which she promptly did. Every so often, my hubby works out with Eric who kicks his butt. Maybe try asking one of the trainers when you see them there? Shouldn't have to but at least you'd finally get an appointment.

That sounds perfect for me. I want to control my own routine but could always use some suggestions from a pro. I ususally see them "working out with" an individual or several people and that's not for me (would rather just take a class).

The drill hall offers face time with personal trainers for free if you have access, which is why I'm considering contacting them.

Well, I got a call yesterday from that last attempt with World Gym and was able to see a trainer last night. I am quite pleased with our meeting. Everything went pretty much like my friend described. He answered my questions, helped me begin a plan, and went through each exercise with me to make sure I was comfortable with it and doing them properly.

Mariah is probably the best trainer at the Prince Frederick Gym. For the 30 minutes she is with you, you have her undivided attention. My son turned 12 recently and I got Mariah to train him. I was very impressed with her.
