Pho Saigon closed - what's next for that building?

Reminds me of the days when Evans Seafood was thriving. People came from far away....

Speaking of which..... how is the Ruddy Duck doing there now? I haven't been there in a long time, and no one has talked much about it. Anything good to say about it?

Rockin! Hard to find a parking place. Not that they have that much room to park to start with....

Wife and I went there once, never again. food menu was limited, service was lousy, drinks were terrible and food wasn't even that good. Not sure what everyone sees in the dump but we won't go back.

That's interesting!...LOL. We never go there to eat....mainly because the menu doesn't really suit what my SO likes to eat when we go out. But the parking lot is packed all the time...can't miss that because we live farther down the island.

Might have something to do with the view. It is spectacular there.

It sure is spectacular today. I just drove by and even at barely past noon, their lot is 3/4 full and one boat at the dock. Bet it's jammed by 2 or 3...

The wife and I think they have a great Sunday Brunch. The oysters on the half shell are to die for.

The one downside I can see is the kitchen is very small. Conversely, the bathrooms are huge with a lot of wasted space. They should have taken some of the space from the bathrooms and put it into the kitchen.

When I was having the designs done by professionals for the new restaurant at Swann's (that was never built, obviously), the code-required size of the bathrooms was a real PITA. Huge, compared to what was existing that we incorrectly thought we would be able to just refurbish.

But at the same time....you ever go in to the kitchen area in the original Evans Seafood? Talk about tiny and cramped. It's amazing what they did with what they had to work with.

Well with Evans all you needed was a couple broilers and plenty of fryers. I seem to remember the steamers separate from the kitchen.

Ive been told by the staff that some of the food at the Island come pre-made from the Solomons restaurant because the kitchen is so small.

Two things from the Solomons location that are missing (IMHO), the beer and pizza.
I understand the pizza part, it doesn't fit the menu there, but they really need to have a full complement of the in-house brews on tap at the Piney Point location.

Again, from what the staff told me, there is not enough cooler space for kegs. This was the reason they told me for why they do not have a growler station.

I hope they get that sorted out.. the possibility of being able to fill growlers without barely leaving home was real attractive from the outset. ;-)
