kvf i have a calico myself and shes always been petite (9lbs) and will be 16 this october. Have you noticed if the cat is peeing more than usual? have you noticed any change in appetite? Have you noticed if the cat has been hiding due to not feeling good?

I had a cat who lost weight fast went from 15lbs to 10 in a weeks timeframe took him to the vet they did bloodwork and i found out he was diabetic and I had to give him insulin shots for the rest of his life. He has since been put to sleep as he kept having diabetic seizures and we tried everything and the last time i took him to the vet the vet told me he was going into kidney failure and that is when i decided it was best to put him down He was 12yrs old.

Phoebe has always been a husky 11 lb kitty, so 8-9 lbs is small for her, but its so noticeable since her shoulder blades and hind legs are boney and poking out. hoebe is pretty independent. She will usually lay with us but we have to pet her to get her to lay down with us, otherwise she just curls up under a blanket with us. Last night she layed next to me curled up with my arm around her, and stayed there forever. I am worried about diabetes or kidney failure :frown: i havent kept track fo food/water intake, or urinating since we have 4 cats.

My sister's cat dropped weight recently. He had round worms. She noticed the worms in the litter box:barf: He is on meds now for it. Hope Phoebe is ok.

Just go where you said you were taking her... :yay: they are great and will take care of her! Get the BW checked..... and go from there... we will pray nothing major is wrong :huggy:
you can manage a diabetic cat well.... Kidney failure is a little more diffucult but will require a RX diet... for THAT kitty.

so first things first... VET, BW.... then we find out whats going on with her... how about that?!! :huggy:
good luck

i can understand that will be quite hard to do since you have 4 cats. I have 2 and already know who the pig is in the house (shadow).

I understand where you are coming from with being nervous about kidney failure and diabetis. Are you prepared if it is diabietis to give shots to the cat etc?

I can tell you from my experience with a diaetic cat that its not an easy task. I was always afraid of hurting the cat when I went to give shots. I also messed up the first few times i did it by getting airbubbles in the syringe. Also are you prepared to be having to spend time at the vets office. I did with my cat for 2yrs. I had to bring him in every so often for bloodwork and insulin adjustments. I just hope you are prepared as its not an easy task taking care of a sick cat some of them hide when they don't feel good and will have a hard time getting them to come out of hiding for you unless you can fit in the spot they are hiding in to make it so they stay comfortable as I have learned with having mulitple cats that usually the one who is sick gets picked on the most and the others will chase him/her around and will also try to keep the kitty from using the litterbox and getting food to eat. Is there somewhere seperate you can feed her and water her from the rest of the cats?.

Please keep me posted as to how phoebe is doing. I hope all goes well at the vet I will be thinking about your kitty. I am hoping for the best outcome and not the worst for you and the kitty.
