Phone apps

I've had my Note for a year and really don't use it for all it is worth but the past few days, I have been messing around with different phone apps and have downloaded a few I think I'll like.

1.) Photo Editor
2.) Tap Boast (allows you to end tasks that are sucking up your memory)
3.) Flashlight (how cool is this?)
4.) Gas Guru (check prices at the pump around your location)
5.) RedLaser (you can scan items at the store, read reviews and check prices... I've scanned a whole bunch of crap around my house)
6.) Yelp (allows you to check for business around your area and see reviews)
7.) Klondike (solitaire games)

So... which apps do you use and why do you like them so much?

8.) Key Ring (this allows you to scan & store all those stupid store cards in your phone so you don't have to carry the card around in your wallet... )

aCalendar is the best calendar app that I have found.

Google Drive is also a must for me

RealCalc for a pretty decent scientific calculator

Have also recently started using Microsoft OneNote on the desktop and just downloaded it for my android tablet.

On the Phone:

  • Flashlight
  • LaQuinta Mobile
  • Trip Advisor
  • Facebook
  • Candy Crush (which I only installed because my daughter had an "emergency" in which she needed me to help her get to the next level)
  • 4 Pics 1 Song (a good way to kill a few minutes when you're cooling your heels somewhere)
  • Where's My Droid (phone locater service in case your phone is lost or stolen - I highly recommend this FREE app)
  • My home alarm manager

iPad is mostly used for games and books. I don't think I have one single productivity app on it.

My most used apps-

Facebook
The Score- Sports scores
Waze- Community based realtime traffic
Cardstar- get rid of all those annoying store member cards
Barcode Scanner- get info on a product, price and who's got it
Scanner Radio- listen to all the action wherever you are. This free app does what my $500 digital trunked scanner can't do now that St. Mary's went encrypted.

[*]My home alarm manager

My husband and I laugh everytime we see that commercial where the son pulls up and mentions he's late because he had to stop by the house. His dad asked him if he left everything okay and he says he did. So dad checks his phone... I guess it tells him it wasn't and he says "yeah I bet you did" and secures everything with his phone. It is just the way he says it that makes us laugh.

And the "find my droid" excellent recommendation - I did download that originally and forgot to list it.

I thought this was an interesting app and something that I am going to mess around with to see if it would work for my staff.

We have been trying to get more employees this past year since they implemented a new computer tracking program 12 months ago that has us doing double work. What used to take only a few minutes to do, now can take us 10 times longer (and many would say that 10 times longer is an underestimate). Everyone knows this but the response we've gotten is to record how much time you spending doing each task. It will not matter to our current govenor who rushed a program so he could break his own arm off and pat himself on the back for accomplishing something in 1/2 the time it took other states to do... overlooking the fact that it is a shiat sandwich... but perhaps our next governor will take note... either fix this crappy program or hire more people. Anyway...

Time Recording
Price: Free

Available on: Android

If you work in the type of business where you need to record the hours you spend on tasks, then Time Recording can help. This time sheet app tracks your hours, integrates with your calendar, and lets you save your time sheets to Dropbox or Google Drive.

I usually check some of the free App of the day things and have gotten some nice paid for apps for free. Appgratis is one and amazon has one usually.

Other apps

I use Torque (cost money for full usage as well an ELM 327 bluetooth dongle), gives you a nice OBD2 scanner as well as some other nice features that let you monitor things on your car.

google sky map
google earth
several emulators (coolrom.com) lets me play older video game systems on the phone.
various android games

I also stopped using the stock messenger and switched to google hangouts

Does anyone here use the Wawa rewards app?

I have been reading the reviews on the actual app and most of them say users have a difficult time using the app. I’m afraid to even download to play with it at this point.

Also, does anyone here routinely use google calendar?

I downloaded that and I really like it. I think I could get used to not carrying a calendar book. Truthfully, I need to because every August, my calendar looks like a toddlers placemat.

Does the WaWa app just create a scannable image that you can use at the cashier instead of having to pull your card out? If so, there are apps that consolidate all those kinds of rewards / loyalty / membership cards so that you can stop carrying them. They scan the cards and then your phone (or in my case my watch) will show the right bar or QR code for the cashier. I use one called Stocard, it seems to work pretty well.

I use that exclusively now. Very easy to use and it's great keeping a calendar in your pocket. I don't sync it with anything else, just use it standalone. I like being able to enter things quickly, like entering a new doctor's appt while you're standing in the office.

And when you get older, like me... you really need those reminders.

Tilted... that is why I am asking

I don't know but from what I am reading, which doesn't make sense, you buy a gift card and enter it on your account and the only way to reload it is to buy another gift card?

Somebody reading here has messed with this so I am curious how this works 1st hand.

I would love an app that would let me load money on it and pay at the register - Wawa is like my 2nd home but I have a feeling this may not work that way. :ohwell:

I just checked it out. Yeah, it looks like you buy a Wawa gift card and enter it into the app and then use the balance from it to pay for stuff. So it's more than just a rewards card and third-party apps (like those I referred to) wouldn't serve the same purpose. It also looks like once you have the first gift card entered into the app you can link to a credit card to have your balance automatically refilled rather than having to buy new gift cards.

There are third-party apps, like Google Wallet or Apple Pay, that can be linked to credit cards and which allow you to make purchases from other places. But I'm guessing you're just looking for something for Wawa, in which case their app seems to make sense.

I need those reminders now and I'm a few years shy of 50. :ohwell:

So far... I really like it and I'm very picky when it comes to calendars.

Okay so perhaps I did catch on to what the program does because that was my understanding.

I think I will wait. I would like the rewards card to allow me to enter money on it so my statement doesn't look like this...

5.63 WAWA
9.21 WAWA

you get the gist and the rewards like discounts on various items would clearly be of some use to us. It is fairly new so perhaps updates later will have it do what I am wanting it to do.
