Phone apps

Okay so perhaps I did catch on to what the program does because that was my understanding.

I think I will wait. I would like the rewards card to allow me to enter money on it so my statement doesn't look like this...

5.63 WAWA
9.21 WAWA

you get the gist and the rewards like discounts on various items would clearly be of some use to us. It is fairly new so perhaps updates later will have it do what I am wanting it to do.

I'd bet the app replenishes the gift card or the app balance, if we can think of it that way, rather than billing each transaction to your linked credit card. So at some balance level it would, e.g., charge your credit card $50 and bump your app balance up by that much. Then it wouldn't charge the credit card again until the balance fell low enough.

I need those reminders now and I'm a few years shy of 50. :ohwell:

So far... I really like it and I'm very picky when it comes to calendars.

The other day after my group was finished a round of golf and we were sitting in the clubhouse doing our normal laughing at each other stuff, I realized that one of the guys I owed a few dollars to had already left. So without thinking I grabbed my phone and said something like - tomorrow at 7:30 remind me I owe such and such such and such dollars. Some of the guys in my group looked at me like, what the hell are you doing? Will it really remind you? I'm like, of course. What are you guys still living in the Bronze Age? (I didn't actually say that.) The bad thing is, some of them have smartphones.

Oh it does but the hassle is that each time you want to add money to it, you have to have that done on the gift card at the store and not by using the app.

You know what app has come a long way since I started this thread?

My fitness pal. I fell out of the pattern of using it so when I went back to using it, I had to download the latest app. I love how I can just scan a package of something. Before that feature didn't work well but it has sure come a long way now. :yay:

..if momma ain't happy...
Patron
Magnifier - for us older folk
Storm Team 4 - love the radar
CamScanner - scan, manipulate, and send documents, photos, etc...
Peel Smart Remote - oh, yeah. NOW I can turn down the volume on the TV, from the kitchen, every time it gets turned up past where I think it needs to be!

Okay - I downloaded it. Although the reviews said you couldn't add money this way, I found you can.
I bought a gift card this morning when I got coffee for $50 - downloaded the app - filled out all the required crap - added the $50 card clicked "Reload card" added in my credit card information in and put another $50 on it.

It shows I have $100 on the card now, as it should.

I have already earned rewards and have until September 11 to get my free fountain drink, ice drink and a coffee (any size on any of the 3). Once you click “redeem reward” you have 15 minutes to use it. If you don’t use it within that time frame it is no good no more.
AND I can have the cashier scan my rewards card from my phone for payment. I will have to get back to you on any glitches I come across doing it this way.

I have had the app up and down all day and the only issue I didn't like was each time I opened it, it said it could detect my location. I don't have my GPS turned on but once I entered in a favorite store, that seemed to stop.

I've had my Note for a year and really don't use it for all it is worth but the past few days, I have been messing around with different phone apps and have downloaded a few I think I'll like.

1.) Photo Editor
2.) Tap Boast (allows you to end tasks that are sucking up your memory)
3.) Flashlight (how cool is this?)
4.) Gas Guru (check prices at the pump around your location)
5.) RedLaser (you can scan items at the store, read reviews and check prices... I've scanned a whole bunch of crap around my house)
6.) Yelp (allows you to check for business around your area and see reviews)
7.) Klondike (solitaire games)

So... which apps do you use and why do you like them so much?

I know I am way late to the party on this one, but a couple of items in your list stuck out.

#2 - Tap Boost - Completely unnecessary on newer versions of Android as the system memory management is very efficient.

#3 - Flashlight - While malware is not exactly rampant on Android, flashlight apps are the #1 source for malware/viruses. Be careful.

Other than that, I prefer trip advisor and google maps to yelp. I like the tripadvisor format, and Yelp is known to suppress bad reviews (lets businesses pay to have bad reviews removed and good reviews "suggested").

If your phone has an IR port, there are some universal remote control apps that are nice. Outside of that, most smart devices (TV's, Roku, etc.) have an app based remote control.

If you like radio apps, the iheartauto app uses the same source material and sorting engine as iHeartRadio, but doesn't have commercials (and works at lower bitrates if you have a bad connection).

"Here" provides free offline turn by turn GPS navigation, if you plan to travel through an area with spotty reception.

If you watch a lot of television, TVShow Time is a great app that keeps track of what episodes you have watched, provides reviews and ratings and show synopsis', and provides alerts for upcoming episodes if desired. There are several series that I watch whenever nothing recent is on (like during the summer breaks in programming), then I forget about them when all the new shows come back on. This way I can quickly remind myself of the shows I have in progress (I.E. I am on season 3, espisode 6 of Scrubs).

And FatSecret is a nice community organized app for tracking diet progress or just looking up nutrition/calorie informaiton. Has a barcode scanner to find calories of packaged food that seems to have every product I have ever checked in its database.

This thread is a few years old and I have since upgraded and don't use tap boost no more.

I like Run Keeper and for us wine drinkers Next Glass and Vivino are both useful and fun. Of course Kindle and Pandora.
