This round isn't about altering the pictures content, it's about using your post processing skills to enhance this photo to make it look better.

Adjusting white balance, contrast, color, saturation, cropping, sharpening ect. are examples of the adjustments you make in post processing.

All entries to be submitted by 10:00am Monday morning and the vote thread will be started. Look forward to seeing your work and hopefully some tips can be shared.

Nickel, Very nice work. I really like your image, but I don't know if that falls under Post Processing. I think that may fall more under editing the image. Post Processing is usually thing like adjusting the white balance, contrast, saturation, levels ect. Using filters and effects don't usually quite fall in that category. Maybe others feel different.

I just added a texture, I can delete that layer if necessary.

I like it! Not what i initially thought of with post processing but the reason we have these contests is to see what others come up with. The idea is to make a picture better without altering the content (cutting, pasting and manipulating objects in the photograph). This is much better then the original and something i would print and hang on the wall now.

"maybe its just me but i dont see a difference in the two pictures other than one is smaller than the other"

You are correct if your talking about the pic in the thread and the one i attached. When i attached, it was automatically reduced to meet the attachment file size requirement. At that point i decided to embed the image in the thread so it would be a little bigger. I have not done my entry yet.

I posted here earlier about this, but then deleted it because I thought maybe I misunderstood the premise.

If the idea is just to make that original image "better" I don't see much room for variation. The WB, color, and saturation are already pretty good on that original image. How many alterations to the contrast, sharpness, etc. could there be before every submission looks the same?

Now, if a really bad image was posted and supposed to be "fixed" that would be more challenging - which I guess was the idea.

I cropped, adjusted level, removed clutter and distracting items, cleaned it up a bit.

It is a hit of a button.... no creativity at all

No, I don't think you should delete it at all. I was just giving my impression of Post Processing. Thats all.

The idea of this isn't to make a new picture, it is to bring out the best of the image that was first posted. Pictures in magazines are not first what you see in print. The magazines do touch ups, color balance, saturation and all those type things to make the image really pop out at you. Just like in film days when they use velvia film to make images more saturated.

I disagree, I think the image is very creative. Just not what I was thinking of Post Processing thats all.

Well... yeah. Of course.

And what I was saying was, if you want to challenge the folks, give them something they have to work to make better. Under/overexposed; poor contrast, undersaturated, dirty/dusty, etc. The original image given was already good overall.

You guys can blame me for this one since I was the "deciding" vote. I thought it was going to be something different too. I should have stuck with my poll vote of iguana. I don't see much difference in the images either. I also thought it was going to be a poor picture that you fixed up but the "before" picture looks fine the way it is.
