exactly belvak. I just went up there and he ate a little more for me. I want to leave him shut in my room with me tonight but am afraid he might have to go potty andn I don't want him pooping in my room so I guess I will set my alarm for like 1 or 2am and get up and feed him again or maybe he will be good til 625am when I plan to get up to feed him etc. I called my mom and she was all excited that he ate. I am just hoping he continues to eat even though I have to give him pills to give him an appetite to eat they appetite stimulating pills for the cat. I will try and give you all an update after I get up and get ready for my day if I have time and can.

Does my butt look big?
Yeah, that. Here's my list from yesterday when I still had reason to be concerned:

Feline Leukemia
FIV - may come up as false positive if given vaccine
Diabete/Thyroid issues
Parasites
Meso-esophagus - esophagus won't shrink back down to normal size after vomiting
Hiatial Hernia - caused by extended period of gagging / vomiting)
Barium swallow - to xray and watch the function of the digestive tract

Hairballs seemed to be Manny's problem.

FIV vaccines build up titers that will show up on the test...if hairballs are his problem shaving him will really help..

Well picasso has decided to eat finally after i mixed some of a can of wetfood that hasn't been fridgerated. Can wetfood that has been opened sit out overnight as long as its covered because picasso seems to like it better when it hasn't been heated up at all?

Cats always like fresh out of the can food...I still like the steak chunk food...and will force feed one that will not eat..

I am going to go up in another hr and see if I can get him to eat some more and will do the same before I leave for work today as I will be gone til about 10pm or so tonight.

YAY!YAY!YAY! I'm so happy for you guys!

How much is he drinking? Dehydration could be an issue; I'm curious because of what your vet tech said (and definitely makes them not want to eat, but its an easy fix).

Another thing some cats don't like is if you leave the food in the original can in the fridge. If you put it in a Tupperware container or something than it prevents the food from picking up a metallic tang that some cats find offensive between feedings. So you could try that. Definitely don't leave open food out, it can grow things.

I've heard different things about microwaving... some people say that it destroys some of the nutrients. I try not to do it, but I'll admit that on lazy mornings Yates's food gets microwaved. The 'kids' (as we call the younger cats) get food in smaller cans and packets so it doesn't need to be refrigerated. More expensive, but probably better for them.

I will just have to get up 2hrs before i feed picasso to let his food become room temperature or I could try what you said which is put it in a tupperware container and fridgerate it.

I don't know if picasso is drinking or not. I haven't seen him when i was upstairs head for the waterbowl but the food I am giving him the vet said should be good enough to keep him hydrated. I am giving him food that you feed an animal that wont eat or drink. Its called science diet a/d its for cats/dogs who have been burned or hurt really bad and refuse to eat (the stuff stinks so bad I had to open my bedroom window).

I don't know if picasso is drinking or not.

Pull his scruff gently away from his body and observe how quickly it 'snaps' back into place. Do you have another 'normal' cat to observe as a control? A dehydrated cat's skin will 'slide' back into place slowly rather than 'snapping'.

(sorry if i'm not making sense; I"m a little drunk; goggle for more details if you need them)

denise what you said made total sense. yes I have another cat she is 14 or 15yrs of age and she tried to steal picassos wetfood so I had to put her out of my room for now so she can't eat it. I am going to take the rest of the can of wetfood out when I get home tonight and let it sit out for an hr or so before I feed the cat as he wants nothing to do with food that has been put through the microwave is there another way I can get it back to room temp quick so he will eat?

How did the dehydration scruff test come out? How does he compare to your other cat?

As for the food, as long as you feed the food as soon as it comes up to room temp, it should be fine. I hate doing it, though, because sometimes hubby and I forget about it and I think after 90 minutes or so from the fridge I feel obligated to throw the food away.

I've never tried it, but you could try putting the food in a plastic bag (I'd use foodsaver bags, I think they are least likely to leach plastic) and heat in a bowl of water. You could try it in the microwave or on the stovetop. I've never done it for cat food, but that's how we defrost people food sometimes.

I'll be out all day, but I'll send you a PM with contact info if you want to talk.

Picasso is doing pretty good this am. He is eating and I think hes back to using the litterpan as this am I woke up to a mess of litter all over the floor. He is also able to get up in my bed without me helping him up so he must be getting his strength back a little.

Hrm, how long has it been, JP?

SO glad he's eating, though! Some times it takes a few days to come back.

Sending you lots of good vibes!
