Places you have been

1) Fire Island, Long Island at sunset.
2) Island of Antigua
3) Living Seas at Epcot when they first opened, eating dinner at a table right in front of the massive tank, with a diver pointing at a fish that was swimming, then pointing at our dinner....... :twitch:

What happened at Antigua?

Anybody here ever been to Belize?

Why...

Dirty, smelly, expensive, locals hate tourists so you couldn't leave the hotel grounds without an escort, extremely limited places to eat, just not a good experience.

...does everything conversation have to come back to Waldorf?

Good to know. :yay:

We're looking at St. Martin and Belize as possible vacation spots. I think its expensive everywhere but my son says that you could live like a king in Belize for very little money. We'll see...

Dad was stationed in Germany at the time.. I believe it was 1973. We vactioned in Garmisch, went to see all the Castles in that area, all of Crazy King Ludwig's haunts.. and on the way home we were going to go through Munich, and on the way (I don't really know why) parents decided to stop off in Dachau. We lived in Germany during the '72 Olympics, and remember being pissed because we didn't plan on going to anything.. Dad hates crowds.

Funny.. I'm not 100% sure if it was with my parents. I remember the vacation, I remember driving through Munich and the Olympic Stadium.. and I remember walking through the gate of Dachau but I don't recall my parents or siblings being there. I can 'see' everything just like I'm standing there, but I don't remember anyone else being there, just me. the sounds, or lack of sounds.. the crunch of the gravel underfoot.

I can almost feel the texture of the walls of the ovens and the exectuion wall where they shot prisoners (Dachau's most favored method of killing).. the smell of the inside of the 'dormitory' that was left standing, but it's if I was all alone in the place. Yet I KNOW my brother, my sister and my parents HAD to be there.

Yeah, I think most would think 4th grade would be too young, and I don't know of ANY schools that did field trips to there or any other 'camps', but in my opinion, having been there, it was a sobering almost life changing event. It all sticks out almost in HD, but the one thing that really caught my eye in the prison were pictures from when we liberated the camp. All the bodies, all the dead.. They used a bulldozer to actually dig a massive grave, and bulldozed the bodies into it. There was a picture of the bulldozer as it pushed the bodies along the ground into the hole.

My brother sometimes posts in here, maybe he can shed some light.

Summer of 73 I would have been 10, so that would have been 5th grade?

Thats amazing, I have always been interested in that part of Germany's history.
My son's great-grandparents were in Auschwitz, they were from Poland and they still have number tattoos. Hitler was insane and its amazing he had so many people in his command. What an experience you had.

Where is the most romantic place you have been?
Stayed at a B & B in Marblehead, Massachusetts that literally was right on the ocean. The waves crashed on base of the building and literally rocked you to sleep.

Where have you been that you would never return to?
Anywhere in Ohio. :twitch:

Where is the most interesting place you have been?
Interesting in a good or bad way?  My favorite is New Orleans for the history, music and food. A close second would be Savannah.
