Cowgirl, I feel almost embarassed by this and I probably should... I planted the exact same thing about a month ago when I planted all those bulbs, there were two kinds of flowers I planted Columbine and one of those shruby things it has purple on it so I thought it was pretty and bought it (back in January) , when I get a chance, I'll look through my posts and threads because I know I wrote it down somewhere on here what it was... I didn't realize this until I was out checking on my sprouts in the garden and I have THE EXACT same thing, leaves, red stems, points, everything :whack:... I'll get back toyou on this :huggy:

That would be great!!! :high5:

I feel like such a moron because I don't remember what the name of it is that I planted  I've been trying to remember forever now, and then tonight looked at it, it was getting too dark for a picture but its the exact same thing

Hmm. Climbing vine. 3 leaflets, whorled. First impression is Virginian Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) - nope. The Creeper has 5 leaflets, whorled. How about the Creeper's cousin - Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata)?

Reading from my "Guide to Garden Shrubs and Trees" by Norman Taylor:
[re. Boston Ivy] "Leaves: Of two kinds, simple and 3-lobed, from 6-10 inches long, or on young shoots (sometimes on the whole plant) with 3 leaflets, all coarsely toothed.

Boston Ivy and Virginia Creeper both have tendrils for climbing.

Hmm...actually, I think mine is more deeply serrated. Here's a pic of Boston Ivy. It's close, but I'm not sure that's what mine is.

Look up Ivy Amethyst plant or Passion Vine Passiflora Amethyst Plant ... reading my old posts that sounds like it, havn't researched it much but when it starts out before getting blooms or whatever, I believe the leaves in immature plants are what you are describing and what I've been growing... I'm now hoping I havn't been doting on and watering a weed all this time

Sounds totally exotic. Could you please post some of the characteristics and growth needs of Astilbe Amethyst? This is fascinating. Can it be grown around here in gardens over the summer? Looks like it from your photo.

Thanks for the knowledgeable response, dems4me.

Dot, here are some links... mine are very small right now, smaller than CowGirl's are. I'll try to post pic tonight, I only have about 3 little leaves, I just planted the bulbs April 1st weekend.

You're appear to be alot bigger than mine though... mine are only about an inch long so far. They may spread out like your leaves but they do look similar

They definitely look similar. I guess mine is about 8-10" long maybe. It's got two stems, one is longer, and the other is about 3" long. I can't wait to see what it grows into.

Have you noticed less bugs in your neck of the woods so far this week? About 1,000,000 of them were mashed on the front of my bike.

Seriously though, I was walking this evening and walked right into one of those gnat swarms. UGH! I think I swallowed several of them. It was thick as pea soup.

Well, after lots of comparing and looking at other vines, I think I have poison ivy. :lmao:

I really can't find any other vine that resembles it. Dems, it does look like astilbe, but this is definitely a vine. I found this pic http://biology.clc.uc.edu/graphics/taxonomy/plants/spermatophyta/angiosperms/dicotyledonae/anacardiaceae/Poison%20Ivy/DBF%20970514%20Poison%20Ivy.jpg and I definitely think it's poison ivy.

Guess I'm just not allergic to it....because I've definitely touched it. :whew:

Also, you can kinda see in the first picture, there's a dead vine going up the trellis....it must've been a clematis that died and poison ivy took over. I guess that's why this plant was in the trash pile. Some men give their girlfriend's flowers...mine gives me poison ivy.

Well I thought poison oak at first - I was close  "leaves of three" now I'm wondering what I have. I now know what I planted but not sure that mine isn't that too now   Seeings how you and your sig. go out of your way to collect it, you are welcome to mine if its poison ivy  - I'll just throw it in a pot and leave it out by the dumpster for you  :huggy:

This vine is seriously interesting! It is making new leaves that are shaped like grape leaves....it's very strange. So, it's not poison ivy...but I still have no clue what it is. :jameo: Maybe it's some sort of wild grape?!

Yep, wild grape. We have one (thank you, birds) that we're training to grow alongside the carport - when it's old enough to bear grapes, they are quite good.

Ours is a Frost Grape - non-hairy undersides and vine stems, wide-serrations along the leaf edges, some leaves with shallow lobes, most leaves sort of heartshaped, but always longer than they are wide.

Not an evil plant to have... assuming it's growing in an okay location.
