Ok. So I've lived here for almost 3 years now and yet I STILL can't figure out when planting season begins down here! Ok maybe I'm in a hurry for spring, but who isn't? I bought Marigold seeds and would like to get them in the ground. When is "safe" down here to do that?

you could start them in pots in your home and then transplant them into your yard May 1st. My Dad says Mother's day, he is born and raised Somd and our family has been here for many, many years, ( like over 100 ). I would feel safe May 1. He would start many plants in a Planter box ( he would call it, like a mini green house )and then plant them in the yard around Mother's Day.

I bought some plants last year and the gentleman said they will come back every year. I have done nothing to them since last year, do I need to cut them back, chop them off to the ground, something or nothing ??

Typically you'd cut them back in the Fall then they will come back in the Spring. That's what all mine do anyway

I wait until Mother's Day weekend to buy my flowers and veggies. Although I try to stick to perennials... I do buy annuals sometimes.

That's exactly what my wife and I are doing, last year we screwed ourselves by planting the first week in April and the freak snow storm killed 80% of the flowers we planted by mid April.

:howdy:

I know. It's so tempting to put out summer annuuals when the weather seems warm....But, the soil is still cold and a freeze is always a threat until mid to late April......Cool season plants are safe to put out, but wait for the warm/hot loving annuals till after the first of May.:gossip: and even that can be tricky some years.......:yay:
