I have all my seeds planted in peet pots, inside the house on the window-sills of all the bedrooms.

No veggies....just flowers.

I tried to sow Lavender in the dirt, last year in late spring, but nothing came up. So now I have at least 20 pots of it growing inside.

I also have passion flowers in peet pots. I just got around to planting them last week, so I don't expect to see anything there for a few more weeks. They better come up, too....after all the problems I had trying to find the seeds. And the seeds didn't look that great, either.. Oh well.

I've planted broccoli, lettuce, kale, radishes, peas, and spinach so far.

I would LOVE lavender...why do you think it didn't grow outside? Is it a finicky plant?

Passion flowers...you can buy the adult vines at nurseries...have you had trouble finding them?

I can't wait til it warms up enough to plant other stuff!!

YES....I have not found them....yet. I have been looking, but no luck.

I also can't find rice paper plants... or otherwise known as "Tetrapanax papyriferus."

The last bunch I bough came grom Raleigh NC. I later found out that crabcake lives not too far from there! She could have brought me some up on her visit. I just wish that I could buy them locally. I understand they throw off "runner-roots" undergrownd, and therefore, causing many other rice paper plants to come up. I LOVE that they spread like that. They are very tropical looking and that is exactly what I want. The more, the merrier!

I'd just be happy to be able to find passion.

I'll keep an eye out for the passion flowers around here...I swear I've seen them at Lowe's. BF also works at a nursery, so I'll have him check there. We don't live that close to each other, but we aren't as far away as you are from somd.

Rice paper plants are so awesome looking. I hope you are able to find/get one!

I want to find some Gooseneck Loosestrife. My mom used to grow it, and I'd love some. It spreads quickly too...well, that's a nice way of saying it's rather invasive. I wonder if that's why nobody sells it...:ohwell:

I was in Southern States yesterday and it seemed like a very inviting idea to buy a bunch of vegtable seeds and plant them and stick with it this year, unlike other years, I buy the seeds with good intentions, but then they rot somewhere because I bought them and forget about them or simply lost interest. But this year I'm determined to give it a try. Yesterday I bought sweet corn, lima beans and some sort of sting beans. When do I plant these and how deep and how far apart? I can get the hang of it after I figure out that part. :huggy:

Gosh Dems, I get a vision of you doing all this work towards a garden and ending up growing weeds. I don't want to stop you from trying but corn and lima beans "can be" difficult for a beginner. I would suggest you wait a while until Southern States get their potted plants in which only requires you to have the ground prepped, digging a small hole and plopping them in. A salad garden is relatively easy, radishes, lettuce and onions are very easy to grow once the weather gets a lot warmer. Corn has enemies, such as deer and worms and lima beans need the right type of soil or they just don't grow right. Gardening is loads of fun and rewarding - and plants love having fish heads buried next to them.

I live in Northern Queen Anne's County...right next to Chestertown (which is actually in Kent, but we're right across the river).

Edited to add: Actually, I think it's about 70 miles...which is a little farther than I thought.

Some might think it is corny, but I plant by what the almanac tells me. I sell herbs and have always had a good luck with my plants.

Hubby got our passion flower at Lowes last year. I brought it inside for the winter and am ready to put it back out again as soon as it warms up, but I think NP said they would live outside all year.
