Everyone should be made to purchase thier own canvas bags and bring them to the food store. This would do away with paper and plastic bags. Save our oil and trees at the same time.

It would promote job growth, help the environment and lower taxes.
We can all bring our own jars, too. Get pickles out of a barrel. Oh, and instead of already cut up frozen chicken, freezing takes energy, we can all get our chickens fresh, lop off their, heads, pluck the feathers, clean, cut up, and cook them. We can wash the feathers and use them in pillows so we don't have to make the nasty foam, hollofil, or artificial fiber pillows any more. We can get our lunch meat cut by the butcher and have it wrapped in wax or butcher paper. Do away with freezers. They use lots of energy. Do like the English, Germans, and French do it. Go to the store every day to shop for dinner and the next day. No one will mind doing that. Right? The wife doesn't need to work. Right? She can stay home and shop, take care of the kids, and cook. No career needed here. What say ladies?

Keep voting Democrat.

I don't care how fast they degrade, they look like crap lining 235 near Giant and Target and I've had to rescue a seagull trapped in one.
I think their reason, though, is to save petroleum. You have to make up your mind folks, save a tree or save a barrel of oil.

...you'll appreciate this;

Isn't the plastic trash bag the official flag of Gila Bend?

We reuse our plastic bags for all sorts of things - wastebasket liners, scooping the catbox, lunch bags, etc. I hope they don't get rid of them.
Exactly! Plastic store bags come in different sizes; I use all of the different sizes for many purposes... Different sized trash cans, items to be shredded, lunch/snack where temperature isn't a variable, poop bags, protecting cards, pre-packaging crafts for storage, pre-packaging pillows and throws when not in use before storing and so on.

I like paper bags as well. They serve their purpose - but they tend to fall apart with moist or frozen items in them. With handles, they aren't usually strong enough to hold the contents so you have to use more. Without handles, they tend to overload them, so it's difficult to carry.

I also take my paper, plastic and sturdy store fabric bags into BJs and use them there to bag my own groceries.

Rarely will you see me throw a bag out, unless it just gets over worn or becomes riddled with holes.

And I don't consider myself a recycling nazi, what so ever.

And btw - California should pretty much be considered their own country anyhow... :yay:

Save both,,do like the Europeans, bring you own netted shopping bags and keep reusing them...I hate seeing trees sprouting plastic bag flags..not good for trees or for wildlife!!!

I should have read the article before I wrote (I'd seen some coverage earlier on TV).. Looks like recycled, non-petroleum based bags will be allowed - but so far where/when possible, the return on the recycling rate has been low.

Many people I know already recycle and separate items into so many categories, I couldn't pretend to know what they are! But after watching Idiocracy the other night and seeing what a giant landfill or land of trash our country could become, more thought is definitely given to what I can do while walking this earth...
