Plaza Azteca SUCKS

despite the fact that i read several negative reviews on here and facebook, i decided to try it for my birthday dinner. After all, i had never had a bad meal or had any customer service issues at monterey.

I had to find the number on here to call. There is no listing on the internet other than monterey's old number. I called 411 and they had no listing either. After calling 3 times and letting it ring 8 times, i finally got through. The person on the other end was very abrupt and placed me on hold to yell at who i guessed was another employee, only he didn't exactly place me on hold. He just set the phone down so i could hear the entire conversation that i couldn't understand a word of.

The chips, salsa, and white sauce were edible things that we ordered. I was so very disappointed. I loved monterey's enchaladas delmar and it's not on the plaza azteca menu. I decided to go for the enchaladas supreme, only with 2 cheese and 2 chicken instead of the beef and bean. Not only did they give me all chicken, but they left my red sauce off. They also left out the side of sour cream that i paid for. I orderered my daughters the same thing to split, only with all cheese enchaladas. They did get their red sauce, but it was crusty and disgusting. Now, with the monterey menu, rice or beans came with the enchalads supreme...not at plaza azteca. It's the same price, but doesn't include it. So, i ordered a side of rice for us to share. Blah, just blah. I ordered my son cheese quesadillas, hard to mess up. They were tiny little things.

$34.27 of wasted money. Alpo. Thank god for birthday cake.

yep!

I asked the guy taking my order why they did not have Enchaladas Delmar on the menu and he replied with "we're Plaza now, not Monterey". My guess is that they've franchised with Plaza Azteca which is open in different areas. They must have different recipes.

They have always been franchises with Plaza Azteca, they were just named Monterey and able to have their own menu. That changed within the last few months. If you look at the bottom of the menu at the Monterey in Lusby it has the Plaza Azteca website on it.

Much if the food has changed and not nearly as flavorful as the past. This is including the Monterey in Lusby also. Service has gone down hill fast as well!

Sorry about your bad meal at Plaza. I was never impressed with Monterey or Sierra Grande. But Fiesta Cafe as someone else already mentioned is the place to go for good Mexican. At least down here in So. MD. in my opinion. Spouse and me both love it.

Where is Big Mike's in LP City???

Taco truck beside Raley's home furnishings and the sewing machine repair place.
Limited menu; tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas and tamales on Saturday.
pork, steak, chorizo, steak and chorizo.
Good prices and I think good food. I'd rather give my $5 for lunch to a small business owner than subway or the like.

But isn't Plaza Azteca just Monterey (South)?
Most people (that would exclude at least me and Hank) like Monterey.

I loved Monterey, but (once again) the food at Plaza Azteca sucks. And once again, the menu is not the same.

I think monterey is terrible and has been for a while now. When it first opened up at the San Souci location I used to go 3 times a week. Over the years the food and service have deteriorated to the point that I don't find the food edible anymore. If you think the food is anything other then bland dog food then you have no taste buds.

Don't know who thinks it is good or bad but sonster, his girl friend and i all ate at Mexico in Huntingtown Friday night. She had steak fajitas, i had chicken and shrimp fajitas, and sonster had steak, shrimp, and chicken fajitas. Food was tasty, service was great and quick, even though the place was overflowing with customers, and price was reasonable.

Well, it is southern Maryland, after all. That's what restaurants do around here; go downhill, fast.

Socki,
I was there on Thursday, with friends, for the seven year (Can you believe its seven years?) anniversary...didnt want to be alone. Two women had the Enchiladas Delmar...we all had wonderful meals and absolutely loved it!!! And several went back on Sunday night for another friends birthday and enjoyed it. Rice and beans were included with orders...and the salsa was the same as at Monterrays.... In fact, the menu is exactly the same...just arranged differently. I was thrilled that I could get the enchiladas with chicken, spinach and cheese...so good!!!! (I cant remember the name.)

 You are right -- a lot of the menu is the same but I did notice a few things that were not at the Monterey's location. I've eaten at Plaza Azteca 3 times in 2 weeks and 2 of those days were back-to-back. Their shrimp tacos are super yummy! The chicken tacos are very flavorful as well. The only negative I've encountered is their service, which is extremely slow. Monterey's used to get you in and out in 30 minutes. I've experienced much longer wait times at PA.

That is odd because the employee told me flat out that they do not have Enchaladas Delmar and that their menu is completely different. He also told me that rice and beans do not come with Enchaladas Supreme. Did any of you order Enchaladas Supreme?

Anyways, I'm probably going to attempt to call a manager and see what the issues were. I do not understand how I can be told that they do not offer something yet your friends were able to order it. I even asked if they had something similar and the guy say "no, no seafood enchalada". Then again, I did not like the food that we did order so it probably does not make a difference. I'm hoping that the place shapes up and the get the recipes straight. The red sauce was horrible and not at all like I've had in the past at Monterey and other mexican restaurants.

I want nothing more than this place to be a success, but I was not impressed by what happened to me last week and have seen so many negative reviews between this site and Facebook.

I've been there several times. No issues with the food. We had to ask for the white sauce but they happily brought it out. One time the salsa tasted different but that happens sometimes. Service was comparable to Monterey, no issues. EXCEPT for the last time I went in there for lunch last week I believe, our service was HORRIBLE. Had to wait for everything, had to ask twice for my cheese dip, when the food came out, mine was not with it (there were only 3 of us) & the one order was wrong. Oh & I never got a refill of my drink. The waiter wouldn't just stop & listen to us, it was like he couldn't be bothered. I just think it was him, so per my receipt, I will not allow Jose L to be our waiter again! & the cc receipt still shows up as Monterey.

I've never been to Fiesta. Unless Azteca puts Enchaladas Delmar on their menu and improves the taste of their food, I will not be giving them another try. I'll be peeled to these boards for further reviews.

Fiesta is awesome so it's worth the drive, esp. after your experience at PA. They've updated their menu since the last time I went. We also love Tequila Grille in Charlotte Hall but have heard complaints that their food has gone downhill recently. I like to judge for myself though.

I'll have to go up there some time...

after the furlough.

We live close to Monterey, and went there VERY often. We noticed that the quality of the food was on the decline over the past couple of years. We also often get rice/beans/salsa/white sause as take out, and the salsa was often rancid. Went back to exchange it, and the new one was great. It seemed that they packed up leftovers from the night before to sell. Not sure.

Haven't tried Azteca yet. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks.
