Depends on how bad it is.

Wash the kid with lice shampoo.

Wash all of their bedding.

Disinfect their combs and brushes.

I've never had lice and neither have any of my kids, but I've dealt with it numerous times when I worked at the beauty shop. #### happens and it's not as big of a deal as what the hysteria Mommies would want you to believe.

:barf: Thankfully my kids have never gotten it.. I think I would throw everything away! I couldn't handle it.

My friends kids have had it a few times this year. She washes all bedding and uses that lice shampoo and gets rid of it pretty quick.

My mother would freak out when the "There is a case of lice reported at school" note would come home. She used to dig through our heads like a Silverback gorilla and then douse us with white vinegar.

:yeahthat:

In addition, check everyone in the household to make sure you catch it all at once AND be sure to go back & do the re-shampoo as per the directions. It's that time of year and elementary school means that it's spread pretty easily as the little ones sometimes don't understand why they shouldn't share combs/brushes or hats.

Once you're done with all that, you'll be able to laugh at yourself when you start thinking your head is itchy every time someone mentions this topic. :lmao:

Put all bedding items such as pillows, blanket in the dryer for at least thirty minutes. Get the Nix Lice treatment it is the best that I know of besides maybe a prescription. Boil all hair combs and brushes. The Rid name brand or store brands will require several treatments. How long is your son's hair? If it is long once you put the treatment shampoo on and rinse it off put some conditioner on the hair. Do not rinse the conditioner out until after you have used the nit comb. The conditioner helps gets the nits out especially if your child has thick and or curly hair. Don't take your child anywhere to get their hair cut. If you have to, do it at home yourself and then sterilize.

Make sure you wash your sheets and covers too. Even a few minutes in your room reading a book, getting a hug and saying good night can infect your space. If your child has stuffed animals or fabric toys place them in a large plastic bag and tie it up for at least 14 days.

I have had this experience two times with my oldest and last year with my middle child. The word lice just makes me itch honestly but if you do some research you will find that it is not too bad to get rid of.

My middle kid got it at school last year and out of a family of five she was the only one. We took all the steps and after two treatments she was good to go. Also don't buy into the furniture sprays etc. Everything I have read states that lice thrive off of flesh so unless you lay on the couch all day the chance of them being on your furniture is slim to none.

:yay: screw the naysayers!
Kid went on vacation with my sister's family and came home with some unwanted souvenirs. We have never had lice before so I was clueless as to what to look for. When I looked in his head it was like a horror show :jameo: whaaaaat the hell is thaaaaaat?! :jameo:
I made him stand in the bathroom away from the baby and I until I figured out what it was through talking to my sister and looking at images on the intranets. The boy kept his cool, I love that about him.

We read 4 weeks for stuffed animals. He was on my bed on Sunday, just the end of the bed watching tv, we were downstairs. What's odd is that nobody here has it :knockonwood: his dad doesn't have it
We buzzed his curls, got the lice kit, did the shampoo & gel with the comb and so now we're still washing bed linens and clothes in hot hot water with dryer set on high. I'm having SO check my head regularly. I feel itchy just talking about it :twltch:

also make sure you vaccumm daily and get rid of the vaccumm bag when done. I remember when I was a kid I got it and we tore the whole bedroom apart washed the bedding dust ruffle blanket. then vaccummed the carpets. We vaccummed daily and washed the bedding daily (sheets and pillow cases) til I was over it. We even vaccummed the furniture in our family room and anywhere else we sat that had cloth on it that couldn't be washed.

I had lice for about 1.5 weeks and we vaccummed and washed everything (beddding wise) the first week after that we were back to washing stuff once a week. If your son sat in your bed I would suggest you pull your room apart too as lice move quick and your son sat in your bed even though it was at the foot of it.

I am sorry I am the bad news bear. I would also try and keep him away from lucy as you can't afford for her to get it as she is so tiny and I don't know if you can put nix on a 2month old babies head or not.

If you need anymore help feel free to call or pm me or fb me and I can tell you more ok mb :)

Yeah, screw that too. Kid came to me this past summer with tick nymphs all over his legs & arms, I was getting hundreds of vanilla bean size ticks off of him before they burrowed :jameo: :barf:

Post your lice stories here, how hard is it to get rid of?

My kids never had it THANK GOD..But a few years ago we had a scare..My daughter went on a camping trip with her girlscout troop. A week later I found out that one of the girls she shared a tent with had them : 0 I did alot of reading....I did read that you don't have to bother washing anything. If you have a boy just shave their heads..If you have a girl get all of the eggs out and then leave your house for 3 days..All lice will be dead and then just hope it never happens again...GOOD LUCK : )

BTW which school are we talking about

I believe it takes 2weeks for the cycle of life for lice. That's why they say bag the pillows/stuffed animals for 14days.

I've had this issue with my daughter - looooong hair!! It was horrible trying to comb.
We did her hair every 4 days till well past the 2weeks.
Everyone in the house used the shampoo every 4 days also.

When this happened I used it as an excuse to get rid of the stuffed animals and threw out all except the absolute favs.

I've been told that lice do not like tea tree extract or oil. If you put a drop or two in your shampoo bottles regularly it's supposed to keep them away.
Also - don't forget the car or car seat (don't know how old he is) I mixed water with a little of the shampoo and sprayed all the headrests. :cds:

MB, I love you dearly, but I may have to put you on ignore for the next two weeks. I've been scratching myself silly since reading this post.

I've never dealt with lice, but a little girl at daycare had lice about a month ago. I spent all weekend scratching while I washed everything in sight, just in case. So far none here.

My daughter did get those little mite things that burrow under your skin (she got them from Washington Hospital Center ICU! :faint:)

So, for the next month, ignore you go! :scratchscratchscratch: :killingme

This is true. Oldest got them a couple years ago from a daycare. He was scratching his head one day, I looked at his scalp and saw nothing (this is probably because I don't wear the glasses I'm suppose to). I figured it was just dry scalp because it was winter and got him some tea tree oil shampoo. Got a call a month later from the school nurse. He's bumped his head at school and when she was checking him out there were a few dead nits stuck to his hair. Nothing live at all on his head but she told me that he'd had a mild case some time back (she could tell by how far the dead ones were stuck on the hair strands). The mother gorillia was a good analogy. After I got him home I picked every single one of those things out of his hair!
