Pleco behavior

But wait, there's more...
Is it normal for a plecostomous to swim around the fishtank at warp speed and bang itself into the walls of the fishtank enough to make a "thunk" noise? I picked up two plecos this last weekend (one for each 29-gal tank) and the one is doing this .... kinda strange. :ohwell:

Not sure about that. Mine is known for re-arranging the tank every day or two. He gets real frisky if we miss his once every four-day zuchinni (sp?) special.

Your fish eats squash?

I have had them freak out for a short time if I was goofing around with the tank, but for the most part they just hang around stuck to the glass.

They love the heck out of it. Split it along the length, spoon out all seeds, and weight it to the bottom. He tears it up. Looks like he's humping it when he gets on it.

Get a new one and no more indoor fishing tournaments.

I'm wondering if it's because I woke the little guy up. :ohwell: both times I've seen him do it, I had just turned on the light to the fish tank. Maybe he wanted to sleep in and was pizzed. I dunno ... I just know that he went zipping around the tank and bonking into the glass a few times.

That would do it. You freaked him out & he is trying to get away from you. Can't say I blame him. Ken is correct, they LOVE squash/cucumbers, just make sure you get rid of the seeds first. Had a Pleco years ago. We called it the dinosaur fish. It survived all kinds of abuse that woulda (and did) kill lots of other fish. It had chunks of its head eaten by crayfish when it was young, moved from PA to MD, from 1 apt. to another, from Timonium to Frederick, had the heater break and water get too hot, got out of the bucket when I was cleaning the tank 1 time and wa on the carpet for atleast 30 minutes, had all the water drain outta the tank once, it lived thru all of this, all the other fish died many times, but it lived. When I first bought it, it was only about 2 inches long, and when it died, it was up to about a foot or more. Thing was almost hardier than a NYC cockroach. Can't wait until I finish my basement and build a 120 (or more) gallon tank into one of the walls.
