I somehow knew better than to ask a simple question on this forum.

POCKETWIZARD

Used them in a studio setting and outdoor team sport shots with lights...like swim teams on stands...I have heard of some people using them for wildlife...I have used a flash for fill in the woods but honestly I have had 6 bases put on that thing the local shop keeps 3 in stock for me(dork!).

They would be good for remote firing a flash set by a nest or den site while you are 30feet back...

It seems crawling through muck and smashing a flash into trees as you're fleeing doesn't do it too well. But yes, they are nice.

Well I have three of them. Wanted to remote the camera more so than the flash. They are the professional standard never miss a pop insane range of 1600 feet for it seems anyone but me. I cant get over 150 feet range. Seems Im fighting rf interferance from somewere. Was looking to see if anyone local had the same problem??. My neighbor uses the multimax's and tryed a range test in his yard and was shocked to find out that his units gave out at 100+ feet as well. Since then I have tryed in several locations and allways the same results ,, 150 is the limit.

Must be something with the base. Thats is it I am sure. We can blame them for everything that doesn't work right.

I have a pair of Cactus v2 remotes aka the "Poverty Wizards"

Not as much range but a tenth of the cost. I've noticed on my canon flash they're a little less reliable because the proximity of the contacts to the metal mount causes periodic shorts. A little electrical tape fixed that. They work perfect on my two vivitar flashes.

The people I've talked to with Pocket Wizards swear by them. Never heard a bad thing about them, other than the price...

Yep thousands of users cant all be wrong. Heck it is so bad I sent them off to Elmsford New York to be repaired. They said they checked out to spec and returned them. Im on the verge of driveing there myself and say OK I gotta see it to belive it. Heck I cant get 300 feet and people are poping them across football fields. Its sad to say but I wish I had gotten the V2.

Are you a Canonite or Nikonian?

Canon flashes sometimes have problems with hotshoe triggers because of spacing of the terminals.

The Nikon guys have a PC terminal and can sync via that, lucky dogs...
If you ARE running canon flashes, might want to try a hotshoe to PC adapter. $10 or so?

I am a canon shooter. Yes I use a paramount hotshoe to miniphone adaptor. I just went and did a test!!!!! forget the darn cords and flashes. When you push the test button on one wizard the blinky led goes solid on both. Well I am so close that I can see the blinky red led on the wizard hung from the top of the 7 foot light stand . In close the light will go solid as it is supposed to. At about 75 feet it wont go solid when you hold the test button therefore the signal is not making the trip.

 I'm not sure how many models have had them, but at least every Canon (mid-level or higher) since the 10D has had a PC terminal. I have a FreeXWire (by Quantum Instruments) pair that I run through mine.

How do you like the Quantum triggers? It seems Every location I choose to use a wizard is overloaded with rf. The wizard puts out 1 milliwat for 50 microseconds ( Easy to loose in a near field) at 344.04 mhz. I guess most people never try to use long range. I wanted to shoot a 50 foot long boat last night with a 70mm lens and could not get it in frame and be in range to fire the flash. 100 feet and forget it. Booo on wizard so much for the so call Professional standard in wireless if they are so easy to overload.

We were referring to the flash not the body.
