Point Lookout Hotel Question

Remember the old point lookout hotel that was torn down some years ago? Anyone have any pictures of it they can share? Know the complete history of the palce? I used to have bunches of pictures but have misplaced them. Some of us were talking about it tonight at the bar and a few people didnt know anything about it.

When we were kids we would sneak in there to scare our friends, hold seances, listen and look for ghosts etc. (you know how dumb kids are) I had some pretty creepy experiences in that place though.

Just a memory that popped up out of the blue.....and with the way I destroyed my mind in high school I have to take them as they come. :lmao:

That site showed some pics of the hotel in poor condition from the 80s and one where it looks pretty good from the 50s.

Since you found the old Pt Lookout hotel, I was wondering if you remember the old Seven Gables hotel close to the Solomons Bridge, I used to play there when I was a kid, one of my Dads relatives owned it then. He was a Westfall.
I've recently moved back to the area and of course it gone. Would like to find some pic's of it. :yeahthat:

I remember the old Seven Gables. My grandmother has a painting of it that a local artist did (can't remember her name to save my life)

I still have some of the old tokens that were used I guess for some kinda slot machine, the last time I saw it was probably in the mid eighties, it was fenced off but you could go in and still find stuff below the floor boards. Any chance of taken a digital photo of the painting, and e-mailing it. I would really like to have it, if only in a picture. :thewave: :thewave:

Will do! :yay:

I live right down the street from where it used to be. I remember growing up, that was one scary looking place, all run down and over grown with weeds  :lmao:

Mary Lou Troutman, perhaps?

I remember the old Seven Gables; it really was quite beautiful, and I'm sure that I saw it on its' downslide. I would have loved to have seen it in its' prime.

As for the old Point Lookout Hotel: I'm not sure if this is a false memory or not, but I seem to have a memory of swimming in the hotel's pool as a very small kid. Of course, I may be mistaken. This would have been in the late 60's.

She does beautiful work. Cecil's Old Mill in Great Mills carries her paintings. They sell copies of a beautiful portrait done by her of the old hotel in all its glory. :yay:

I almost bought a painting done by her. I was looking at the picture and noticed the name of boat in it has my first and middle name.

I remember the old Point Lookout Hotel, as a kid my Mom loved going to places on the water. Way back in the mid 50's the family spent a couple of nights in the Hotel, and what I remember was that my brother and I, we were about 8 to 10 years old we went fishing on the pier. We caught this fish that we took back to the Hotel and I remember the cook, cleaned it and cooked it for us, which we thought was really cool of the cook. We lived in Hillcrest Heights and I thought that was the longest drive ever to get there. I remember seeing pictures that we took of our time there, but that was proably at least 20 years ago when I came across them, wouldnt know where to look for them now. Spent alot of time as a youngster in places like North Beach, Cheaspeake Beach, Beverly Beach, Bay Ridge, and Breezy Point.

It is Mary Lou Troutman... My aunt's bought several prints of that painting as gifts for my uncles.. They all grew up in a house down there. My Great Grandmother worked there and still lives a few houses from where it stood..
I hated to see them tear it down. I used to play down there in the summer when I'd visit as a kid.
Prett soon there won't be a charming place left in the area.. Everything is being replaced :super8: :ohwell:

OK, I was also told to visit Cecils Old Mill, where I could see a copy of the painting, don't think I would want it enought to by it or place it on my wall, but then again I haven't had a beer in a few day's, Ha...Stay in touch, especially around your birthday time mine is the 22nd of march if all else fails and the bar's all close I'll stay up with you on-line. Then we can laugh at it in a few days(recovery) at all the mispelling's and wonder what the he-- we were talking about. :martini: :bday: :drunk:

Sorry it took so long but I had to keep up with my college obligations.

There are three photo's. The first should be a view from the Chesapeake Bay, this photo is not as old as photo #2 obviously.

The last photo should be a Point Lookout camping ticket/rate. I just found it interesting.

If you would like the original size I can email them to you. For now, somd.com only allows 100.0 KB photo's.

P.S. If you're really interested in finding out more I'd call 301-872-5688 and ask for Christy Carter. She may be a hard woman to reach, especially this time of year but keep trying back.:yay:
