Isn't the lighthouse supposed to be open this weekend? I seem to remember that it is usually the first Saturday in November.

Yes.

Mark your calendars for the Point Lookout Lighthouse Annual Open House 2005, to be held on the first weekend of November. Hours are scheduled to be 10 am to 4 pm, on Saturday November 5th and Sunday November 6th. Please be careful when touring the lighthouse; parents should watch their children carefully as there are several off limit areas that can be very dangerous. At last year’s event, a child entered an attic area and lost his footing, leaving a large hole in the ceiling! Luckily, the unknown child was not injured but could have easily fallen thru the ceiling to the next floor.

Thanks Buddy! I might have to make a trek down. I have gone once before, probably about 8 years ago.
Hopefully the Navy turns it over to the state like they said they were going to year after year. The outside looks great compared to yesteryear but the inside is horrible. That house will look beautiful when they finally get everything done.:yay: When I worked as a naturalist/historian at PLO my boss was thinking about ideas of what to do with it after it is turned over to the state. A living museum, the new visitor center, even letting people rent it out for 30 bucks per person per night came up. Should be interesting to see what comes of the 165 year old building.

Sorry it took so long but I had to keep up with my college obligations.

There are three photo's. The first should be a view from the Chesapeake Bay, this photo is not as old as photo #2 obviously.

The last photo should be a Point Lookout camping ticket/rate. I just found it interesting.

If you would like the original size I can email them to you. For now, somd.com only allows 100.0 KB photo's.

sorry it took so long to reply. I just saw this. I've been wrapped up in other things. Thanks BuddyLee. Thanks Thanks thanks! These pics are awesome!! I'd love to have the full sized pics. And I will look up Miss Carter.

As we said in the 80s---------YOU ROCK. ~Big hugs~

Hey, I just joined this site, I used to live in the little shack looking house next to the scarey nightmare of a hotel when I was growing up. We used to sneak in there all the time. I probably could come up with some old photos. I could ask my mother for the complete history, I just remember the "stories".

Remember the old point lookout hotel that was torn down some years ago? Anyone have any pictures of it they can share? Know the complete history of the palce? I used to have bunches of pictures but have misplaced them. Some of us were talking about it tonight at the bar and a few people didnt know anything about it.

When we were kids we would sneak in there to scare our friends, hold seances, listen and look for ghosts etc. (you know how dumb kids are) I had some pretty creepy experiences in that place though.

Just a memory that popped up out of the blue.....and with the way I destroyed my mind in high school I have to take them as they come. :lmao:

Hello,
I know these posts are old but I was also looking for info on the old hotel. I use to come down and stay at our house right next to the hotel every summer from about 1960 till 1978.
Thanks
Pete

@ PTNEWTON. PM me if you are talking about the old Seven Gables Hotel.

I used to live there when I was a kid, my dad and uncle owned the place
back in the 60's.
I think I have some old pics around here somewhere.

I remember the old Seven Gables. My grandmother has a painting of it that a local artist did (can't remember her name to save my life)

The artist is Marylou Troutman and I have a postcard that is exactly the same as the pic that my grandmother got when she worked there.
