Football Mom!!!
Hello--

My neighbor just gave me two Poms, a male and a pregnant female. I have never had a pregnant dog before and I am not sure what to expect. How many puppies do they normally have? My mother has agreed to take one of the puppies when they are ready to leave their momma. Another question is how long are they pregnant for? What are the signs of getting ready to deliver? The neighbors girlfriend didn't like them and was going to call the pound. He left and dropped me the dogs--I haven't been able to contact him and ask any questions about them so I figured this was a good place. Thanks for any help!--J

I would have gotten rid of the girlfriend, not the Poms. Spineless man.

A friend of mine is looking to adopt a small dog if you are looking for takers on the pups.

He left her, but was not able to take the dogs with him. That being said, I have already fell in love with these dogs. They are the most spoiled, playful dogs--my kids adore them. I am taking them this weekend for some grooming, they will probably end up getting shaved because several parts of their fur is matted pretty badly. I will see what happens when they go.

She is really big, that is why I was wondering what signs to look for when she is gonna have them.

I would also talk to the vet about delivery problems that Poms can have. It is not uncommon for a Pom to need a c-section.

Google pregnant dogs. I did this with my cat and I found a site that was wonderfully full of info.

Hopefully I can get a hold of the Daddy and get the history on them. I know he has had them since they were puppies--and other than the fur being matted--they seem to be well taken care of. I am still going to call the vet--get my new babies checked out! Maybe they can tell me how many she is having.

My co-worker just said not to touch the puppies when they are born--that the mother won't take care of them. Is this right?

No. Please take my advice, go to a vet. Get the dogs checked out and please learn all you can about the breed and the delivery of puppies and how to take care of the mother and the puppies.

I intend to take them--I am calling to make an appointment. I am trying to get as much info as I can on them--from the internet, other people and the previous owner. I don't think that he ever used them as breeders, she only has had the one litter before (two dogs).

Age is another thing that I do not know. He has had them for a little over a year, I am thinking that he got them as puppies.

Here is some pics that I took when they first came to live with me--they were wet!

My friend had poms. Her female was pregnant and needed an emergency c-section. Even after the surgery, she lost all the pups.

Are you planning on selling these pups or giving them away?
