Poor Little Bella...

I just answered an ad here on somd.com because something just didn't sound right about the ad. I was right. This poor little dog is extremely matted. The woman tried to shave her but did a horrible job. I managed to get the matts out of her ears and tail but I am going to have to try and shave the rest of her legs. Paso has been wonderful in giving me advice on how to go with this.

These are pictures before her bath and before the matts were removed from her ears. You can see the knots in her ears. They came out a lot easier then I thought they would but it still took an hour for both ears. This kind of treatment makes me sick! She is the sweetest little dog and she never once offered to bite me while I was working with her. I was told she was a pekingnese (sp?) but I think she is a pug mix. Maybe with Lhasa or Shih tzu. What do you guys think??

Oh and don't look at that mess in the picture :blushing: Its my husbands utility sink, and we all know how messy men can be! :lmao:

Yep a Llasa or a Shih Tzu..not as bad as I thought...Leave the tail and ears and get rid of the rest..leave her a little beard if you can and she will look nice..

:faint: OMG that dog is the spitting image of a dog my mom once had. We always thought she was a lhasa mix.

Please be sure that those mats in her ears are not causing a yeast infection! Those things can get nasty!

Matts are all gone, ears are nice and squeaky clean! She smells so gooooooood!

Ok, here's the story. I have been watching Bella. She acts as if it hurts to sit. Here back feet stay dampish all the time, and she is licking herself a lot more then normal dogs do. I'm thinking bladder problems. I have put in a call to SMAWL and asked for help to get her the medical attention she needs and have offered to go ahead and foster her til they can place her. But at this time I am not financially able to take care of a major problem. My vet charges out the nose for these things and I only have a couple hundred dollars left on my charge with this vet. I cannot afford to pay directly out of pocket for the dog to see anyone else and that includes the Well Pet Clinic. I know I should not have answered the ad but there was just something pulling at me to go and check this dog out. I'm glad I did! She was filthy and covered in matts. Anyway, I need the help of my fellow forumites to find her either the help she needs or a new home with someone that can afford to get her treated, or like I said before, I can foster her while she gets the medical help she needs and then we can find her a home after that. I will be back in a bit to check for posts, I have to make my daily drive to Leonardtown High school. :howdy:

Anal glands?

Well, honestly I don't know. I will check though. Her poop seems to be normal and of a normal consistencey, so I'm thinking they are probably fine. But I will check. Any other ideas?

Well, I realize you don't have $$, but you did rescue the pup and you weren't sure what condition she was in, so I think you should take her to vet and find out at least what you're dealing with. Might be something simple.

Oh yeah I'm going to, but I have to wait for Well Pet to open at 2 so I can get her records. So she is definitely going, I just was wondering if anybody had any ideas about someone that could help me after this.

:yeahthat: If you have a few hundred "on charge" with the Vet. At least just pay for the visit/examination. Then you will know what you are dealing with in terms of how much money you will need, or what kind of illness to inform the new adopting parents of her  It will take the vagueness out of the equation for all involved and shouldn't cost a whole lot, just the vet visit and probably some tests. Good luck!! :huggy: The only suggestion I can think of was maybe it pulled a muscle scratching a matt out behind the ear  Maybe its toe got stuck in the matt and it pulled a muscle. I don't know, just trying to think positive and hoping its something simple for you. :huggy:

Just talked to a lady with SMAWL and she is going to contact her dog people. She has told me that they will do an intake on her and then she can stay with me until she finds a new home and that they will provide her the medical attention she needs if she requires further attention after she sees my vet today. I feel good in my heart that I saved this little dog. Now somebody go on and get the Burmese Mountain dog the same woman has. She is giving him away for free. I wonder if he is as matted up as this little one was? I didn't see him yesterday and she didn't even mention him to me. If I had he would have been in my car too. I have got to quit trying to save the world. At least thats what my hubby keeps telling me. :frown:

They are beautiful dogs! :yay:

I know. I love em. They have health problems though (as does any breed though)...and a rather short life span. I'd still like one....maybe I'll rescue one someday.
