That ladies momma pig wasnt much bigger than a bulldog. short legs, fat body

I saw both ads and e-mailed them....wish they had've posted their phone numbers! I wonder if getting a piglet would be better than a 2 y/o? Hmmm.

I heard the neutered males were the best...that is what I have...females come in heat and are #####eey...Wee is 5 now..or 6..Have to look we got him at an Oakridge show in Oct from Nanny F....Dawn W is a great person..

I went to a lady's house in Golden Beach yesterday...her momma has a litter of 7. Momma is a grey and the poppa black and white piggy...the babies are the CUTEST darn things I've ever laid my eyes on! I'm in love and decided on a little male (they are 3 weeks old & can't p/u for another 3 weeks) he's grey and pink! She has a 6 month old in the house that's housebroken and did all these tricks! Soooo, there will be a new rule in my house....NO PORK PRODUCTS! LOL!
Nanny Foster? She's an ole' bud of mine...has anyone heard how her health is recently? Yep, Dawn W. is totally cool....she worked @ the same farm I did....I won't mention the name!

Pigs actually love hot dogs and stuff...My Wee does tricks. I give Wee sausage etc I tell him it is barnyard buddy..

Last I heard Nanny was pretty bad off..I know she lost a leg :frown:

The lady showed me her piggy tricks...I was amazed how loveable and smart they are!

Oh God I knew Nanny was doing bad but hadn't heard she lost her leg! That's so sad and horrible! Nanny and I used to travel together on the NBHA circuit years ago.

I need to call Dawn and find out how's she's feeling...after the mishap at the farm and all.

hey make sure you follow the nutrition guidelines for the Piggy (Stolzfus and Southern States both have Hog Feed)

one thing we found out when we got PigPig is that people will purposely starve them (the piglets) to keep them smaller, PigPig is only about the size of a big cocker spaniel, and maybe 45-50 pounds (and HAAATES being picked up). yet she's around 3 so she's full size.

MyLittlePony even feeds her pepperoni (the Sick-o) but i dont think PigPig will ever get close to the size of Hoover or Henry

Some are just bred smaller...I wish I had gotten a small one like you..I have a hog

Nah, the Amish i bought her off of, had her parents there, both of them were "normal sized".

we were going to get one of them, but then PigPig came out of the pig house and the kids picked her instead (she was an aniversary present). they then told me, that she is 2 or 3 and that if i wanted to keep her small not to feed her to much (MyLittlePony is trying to fix that).

unfortunately they didnt speak very good english so it wasnt until later that i realized she had also mentioned that i may end up with little ones, but that she'd take them in.

Yeah whats up with the big boned and small boned pigs..I mean I thought if I bought a pot belly he would be small..I was fooled..
Yeah, me too! My girls parents were MUCH smaller than they are. Personally, I think they just didn't feed them properly, and they did have the run of a fairly large farm.

I never saw Wees parents...Nanny Foster had them years ago at a horse show for like $30 daughter had to have one..so we have a Wee...He is not so Wee though..he gets corn, and horse type food he is a big cockroach typa pig..eats whatever he finds..he is not penned and has free run...so he keeps his feet nice...do you worm yours regularly I had been giving Wee shots of ivermec when I did the llamas but Dr Molesworth said ivermec paste works as good so he is on the horses schedule now..

we stayed away from feeding horse feed, since all the reading we did on them said that they needed higher protein (the hog feed is 14%)

she's penned now (but gets to run around) until we get our barn up, then she'll have the run of the farm (at least until Kaiser stops by)

Okay the lady I bought him from said to get the Hog Feed @ S.S.
So HOW OFTEN do you worm and Ivermectin is okay...even for a piglet? Does anyone know how old they need to be before you can have them neutered? I'm pig ignorant I suppose. :lmao:

Ok from Pigs4Ever (<--Click) good information site.

VACCINATIONS

Should your pet pig be vaccinated?

That is a question of some debate in the pig world. I personally had my house pigs vaccinated yearly for their first six years then stopped. They are pets and no longer do any traveling, nor do they come in contact with any other pigs. Bonnie & Clyde our rescue pigs have never been vaccinated. Of course, if your local laws require it, then they will be vaccinated.

The vaccines are made for farm pigs and don't seem to have much value to the potbellies since the vaccines are made for one particular strain of a disease that potbellies rarely, if ever, get. If you do have it done, don't let them talk you into every year because we are seeing problems with pigs getting them too often and their immune system is so good that it ends up doing more harm than good.

We have also heard of cases where the vet over vaccinates the pig. Meaning too much of the vaccination was given for the size/weight of the pig.

If you must vaccinate, the recommended vaccinations may vary depending on where you live. Vaccinations should include Erysipelas, Bordatella, and Pasturella on a yearly basis after initial double dose at 6 -10 weeks and 12 -14 weeks. Be careful: Reactions to lepto vaccinations are common. As of this writing, rabies vaccine is not approved in pigs. Pigs are resistant to rabies and are very unlikely to contract the disease.

Using cat or dog vaccines are unacceptable. Lymes vaccine is not approved in pigs. Remember, vaccinations are expensive and if they are doubtful in value they should be avoided, especially since occasional reactions do occur.

Vaccinations can be given either in the butt muscle or in the neck about 2-3 inches behind the ear.

WORMING

Your pig should be wormed twice a year. This can be done with a shot, but given orally is easiest and best. If giving orally, it is not necessary to have a vet do the procedure. The antiparasitic of choice is Ivomec 1% solution, while others are using Dectomax.

If your pot belly pigs dry skin has a somewhat red tint to it then you may have mange mites.

You can get the Ivomec at some feed stores or ask your vet to give you enough for two doses. Tell your vet you want to give it by mouth instead of in shots and he needs to give you a little more than what would be in the shot. If you cannot get it from your vet or find it at your local feed store then you will need to shop on-line. We get ours from KV Vet Supply. You are looking for Ivomec for swine, the 1% solution.

Everyone has their own way of giving Ivomec. If you go to the vets he will want to give a shot. Pigs don't handle shots very well so ask if it can it to be given orally. Some use 2/10th of a cc per 10 pounds of body weight and 1/10th of a cc per 10 pounds if given by injection. Others give 1cc per 50 pounds of body weight. This is the formula we go by here, 1cc per 50 pounds and we have never had a worm problem in over 14 years. Ivomec is safe and very hard to overdose so don't worry.

If your pig will sit nice for a treat then you can just squirt it into the side of their mouth. (Make sure it is the side of their mouth, not straight in, so it doesn't go down the wrong tube in their throat.) Or you can dampen his food just a little and squirt the Ivomec on the food and stir and they will usually eat it. If you have more then one pig keep them separated so that you make sure each pig gets his full dose.

Also remember that the pigs can build up an immunity to Ivomec so it is good at times to alternate with Dectomax. Dectomax is a pour on and it comes with a measuring bottle so you don't make a mistake. It can be ordered from Jeffers Catalog (1-800-JEFFERS). It is as good as Ivomec for up to 7 different kinds of parasites including mange.
