Should be very easy to figure out where he was since the lawn mower was still under the vehicle and undoubtably left marks. He must not have seen him at all if he went that far before coming to a stop. Not blaming anyone one here. But a few questions do arise in my little mind.

Fair enough. AT least you have an honest perspective. :buddies:

In looking at the pictures and the body appears to be on the southbound shoulder of the road and the car is about 50 ft or so in front of it in the travel lane. I cant see how the lawnmower gets under the car if it was hit on an angle. The pictures on the vehicle that I see don't show me where the damage is.

Well the body could have been tossed pretty much any direction especially if hit by the corner of the truck. I agree withe the lawnmower angle, but it may have moved around a bit. The guys were looking under the hood, but that's probably standard op. I thought I saw damage to the grill, but not sure. Maybe looks maybe a little bent in front center, but nothing else.

It's a sad tragic accident and my condolences to the family of this gentleman.

Trooper 1st Class Wesley Goldston is no different than you or I- except he was driving a state owned vehicle and wears a badge. He's a citizen. He's human.

Yes, accidents happen and unfortunately a family lost "a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandparent".

I've driven these roads for years and am one of many, who saw him walking with his lawnmower daily, weekly even monthly. I never, ever saw him walking in the middle of a lane. He was always walking on a shoulder (when there was one) and always walked facing oncoming traffic.

So, he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident. I wasn't there nor did I witness the accident but, I'm sure that if one was driving the posted speed limit, surely you'd see a "something" in your lane and have enough time to brake and/or go around if other lanes were clear- Unless of course one was speeding or their eyes were on something else. According to the trooper- "he took evasive action in an attempt to avoid hitting the person who was directly in front of the vehicle".

I mean, we've all seen something in our lane at night and have had enough time to slow and/or brake- Unless of course something just RAN into our lane or in this case just happen to be DIRECTLY in front of the vehicle."

90% of the time Police won't/don't punish their own---"just say'n"

Again, my condolences to the family of this man.

He was wearing a camo jacket. The same faded one he wore every day. He did not blend in with the scenery on that road. :jameo:

"Flower went outside, she said, and saw the driver of the white SUV walk back and talk to a woman in another vehicle traveling behind him. Flower said, "He was saying, ‘He was in the middle of the road. I couldn't see him. I couldn't avoid him.'"

Just curious, when driving fairly slowly and trained in defensive driving, can you usually see stuff, like people, that are right smack in the middle of the road? And why would an officer immediately go to the car behind him and begin telling them what happened, don't cops know that after seeing something traumatic most people are unclear and easily swayed?Oh...wait...now the picture is forming.
We have a saying in the bike riding world "Don't over drive your lights" lights only shine a couple hudred feet up the road. Going 60 MPH how fast will you cover that distance?
Someone in the road, no reflective gear or lights a fraction of a second to react, the drive er didn't have a chance to miss him. If you are ever in a fatal accident I hope you have people on the jury smarter than you.

But according to you EVERYone should see a deer in the road at night before they hit it.

No- just saying....
Quoted directly from the Enterprise Newspaper, "Flower said, "He was saying, ‘He was in the middle of the road. I couldn't see him. I couldn't avoid him.' yet- in 4 paragraphs above I quote, "Trooper 1st Class Wesley Goldston, a 15-year veteran of the agency assigned to its automotive safety enforcement division, took evasive action in an attempt to avoid hitting the person who was directly in front of the vehicle"

I understand that you don't overdrive your lights silly, I know I don't.
This was nearly my opinion- again, I wasn't there so obviously didn't witness

It amazes me how quick you are to point blame when you have not facts. Guess what? Accidents happen in life. Sorry we all can't be perfect like you. Never surprises me when whiners take a sad accident and try to blame someone as if they acted in some malicious fashion.

I totally agree. This is a double tragedy. My husband and I also marveled at Mr. Baird's endurance and dedication to his travels. He could not have known the widespread impact his passing would have in Southern Maryland.

Trooper Goldston lives up the road from our home and we pass by his house every day. He is an extremely kind-hearted and caring family man who has dedicated his entire adult life to serving the state of Maryland. Wesley works very hard to provide a good life for his family which includes two very young children. He also maintains his own landscaping company and is often seen helping others in the neighborhood. Wesley's own life was changed forever that night. He should not be judged by those who know nothing about the accident or him. He will without a doubt be haunted for the rest of his life. It could have been any of us. We will never know. Please don't forget this family in your prayers. They will be suffering for a very long time.

FINALLY a voice or reason that can put a "story" behind the cop..

Not that it matters. YOu can't erase what people have read, and you can see by the lack of repsonses to your post nobody cares how good a person the Trooper is.. Why that would fly in the face of THEIR truth, and we can't have any of that.

They'd much rather ruin his name and his reputation and see him spend the rest of his life in jail without knowing ANYTHING ABOUT HIM.. but they cared so much for YOGI and know EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM..

Thousand of deer a year get hit just standing in the road.. not ALL deer dart into the road and get hit.

SO unless you can say, and prove, ALL deer that get hit dart into the road, your argument has no merit.

I was hoping the lack of response might have been a good sign that putting a little realism and compassion into the mix from the other side of the coin might have changed a few minds. Silly me. Unfortunately, you're probably right.

I've had a deer run into the side of my vehicle so I agree with itsbob here.

Damned glad to meet you
You mean like whiners who try to defend every cop without knowing if they acted maliciously or not when they kill someone walking on the side of the road because they decided it warrants vehicular manslaughter. IS THAT WHO YOU MEAN????????

Read it again foodcritic. You're so stupid you didn't understand it the first time around.

Not to defend Food Critic but you are pushing to become a rock star too.

There are many here that do just the same as you:

"You mean like whiners who try to accuse every cop without knowing if they acted maliciously or not"

In most case, people to make these statements are more likely to have done something stupid and got caught.

I have seen both sides of the police and my recommendation is get involved with the community and you might find out what is really happening. I think your expectations of the public service that the police offer is distorted. Get involved with your community and you might look at things differently.

Yes, I do understand that. I was addressing foodcritic who goes to the extreme of refusing to even consider that a cop could have done something negligent and if some one questions that he interprets that as 'Cop Hating'. Cops do a lot of CYA. My friend is a cop and he has told me of several incidents of this behavior.

we all have seen him and we all know that he stays to the side of the road so it is hard to beleave that he walked down the middle of the road ! He has been doing this for years i think that they are covering someones A** !

How did we get this far off the topic of the thread

Here's how.

If you had something logical to offer I might respond. Your perceptions are wrong on what you think I believe.

You uttered an absurd statement like:

Yes, I do understand that. Cops do a lot of CYA. My friend is a cop and he has told me of several incidents of this behavior.

Never have I said a police officer could do nothing wrong. Do you have some quotes of me suggesting that. Try reading AND COMPREHENSION. It was not questioning. IT WAS ACCUSING.

I am sorry if you think that just because I take issue with people calling the officer a MURDERER, if that is a problem for you. TO BAD!!!! Pound Sand. :cds:
