Pre-K Field Trip

So, my 3 year old is having a field trip later this month. The school is providing a school bus and there will be no carseats, and parents may not drive kids. Would you let your child go without the carseat? I am chaperoneing, but have a 2nd child as well.

Yes. They'll be fine.

My daughter is 3 and later this month is going on her second field trip with the school. I do chaperone - so, obviously I don't have a problem with it.

:yeahthat: I'd have a hard time with that unless I was going to chaperone.

Public school preschool students ride the bus all the time. They are fine. Some of the newer buses do have seats that fold down for carseats. Not sure if that is the case here though.

I'm sure that they will be fine. If not run late and have no other choice but to take your daughter in.

The little one will be fine. Also check your school's policy on siblings and field trips. Our preschools all said strictly NO siblings on field trips. It's nice for hte moms to have their attention on just one child. You may have to call a grandma or girlfriend to watch your younger child.

If the sibling can't come, then none of us will be going. I'm fairly certain that the teacher said siblings can come.

What pre-k do you use? We are at Little Canes in Huntingtown.

Why? No family or a friend that can watch the baby or is there something we're missing? Truely, your pre-k'er will love the special time with mommy.

My second child is special needs. I prefer to keep him with me. Grandma lives too far away. Though my hubby and I will go out for a date from time to time, but the kids are together and we have the same 2 babysitters, both of whom are adults.

Gottcha. I was wondering if maybe there was a medical issue. My third has kidney disease (resolved for the time being) so I understand.

I would check the requirements for the sibling - our daycare has ages 2 and up, but the 2 year olds are not allowed to ride the bus. They're welcome to attend but parents have to drive them there. I'm not sure if you're referring to an older or younger sibling, or what your school's policy is.

I have a special needs child as well. He rode in carseats on the bus for many years. He has been small and will always be. Im with the other person who said run a bit late or just drive there and get there a bit early and it shouldnt be an issue. If its against the law for a 3 yr. old to be out of a carseat in a car why is it ok for them not to be in one on a bus?

apparently there is no law in md about kids riding on buses without carseats. However if you have a special needs child who goes to school the little bus provides carseats...

This being a fieldtrip = no carseats

It's against the law for kids under 8 not to be in carseats/booster seats but do you see any buses equipped with them? nope!

Agreed! Which is why I am concerned about the pre-k field trip on the bus.

Buses have a little more of a higher safety rating than a car or truck. But if you are worried just run late and drive her to the field trip tell the school she has an early appointment and can you take her to the trip.

Well, I guess she is going to need to go with gut instinct and do whats best for her and her child.
