Pre season report card...

Larry Gude

Strung Out
...3 games in.

What do we know?

1. The defense is dramatically better. I see people running to the ball. I see solid technique used tackling. I see an afwully aggressive scheme. Somebody is blitzing on every play.

2. Special teams looks very competent.

3. QB is an unmitigated mess, but Gibbs offense typically starts seasons a bit slow. Gotta believe we'll be OK here. O line still needs time.

Overall, everybody seems to just be playing hard, competing.

So, no more injuries and Sean Taylor is going to the Pro Bowl this year.

 It's funny, K_JO was just inquiring about MainMan's standards, and if he possessed high ones.

I told her: "Look, anybody who picks the Washington Redskins as their favorite team doesn't have high standards"!

Gibbs or no Gibbs, it's gonna be another "Trail of Tears" year.:bubble:

 It ain't all bad guys, the skins will probably end up trailing the Giants and the Eagles at the end of the season.

Maybe they'll get a wildcard berth?

What was that song Larry was butchering to death last season?

The Washington Redskins will do quite well this year. Gibbs is back in town and there is substantial talent on the field. Hopefully Brunell is smart with the ball and doesn't make the mistakes that defined him in Jacksonville the past few years. Clinton Portis will be 350 carries and 1500 yards behind the Bugel line. On defense, my only concern is the secondary, but Greg Williams' aggressive style will compensate and force qb's to have limited time to throw. I am very hopeful and perhaps this team will make it to the playoffs for only the third time in my lifetime.

:razz: rraley, from what I gather, you're a 17 or 18 yr old young man;
If you live long enough, you might be lucky enough to see the Redskins make the playoffs again.
You other turkeys, just because Gibbs is back, it don't automatically guarantee they'll make the playoffs.
However, that is why they have Fantasy Football; but hey, I could be wrong - we'll just have to see how it all plays out.

Put down that crack pipe, Penn.
 So you and Catt both think I'm on drugs, eh? Well, all I gotta says is just because Gibbs is now on the sidelines, he does not also have a magic wand in his back pocket that'll change the skins into champs vs perennial losers.
So he's a gifted headcoach; you think he can pull a rabbit out of a hat this year?

Anyone see the Giant's new uniforms for regular season? Rumor has it that they in fact will be skirts and not kilts as previously thought.

:stooges: Well, unlike the Redskins who'd do anything, and I mean anything to try and return to the "Glory Years", the Giants, I think are in a rebuilding phase; they are a year or two away from regaining the top spot in the NFC East. They aren't as desperate as the 'skins are - "gotta have it NOW" -, so they won't have their panties in a bunch at the end of the season like that other team will.

And how many years have they been or will continue rebuilding? It seems the 'Skins have a more recent Superbowl ring then your Giants and will probably get another well before the Giants get their next.

Football season!
One quick statement:

Gibbs's playoff percentage is second to whom?
Lombardi

Lombardi owns a 9-1 (.900) career playoff record. Gibbs sports a 16-5 playoff record.

That is all.

Sure he can, Parcels did it last year with lesser talent. Yeah, and as much as I don't care for Parcels, he is one hell of a coach...as is Gibbs.

 Otter, I hope he at least pulls a breathing rabbit out of that hat, and not a choked -up one. Given the fickleness of the Redskins' front office,(how many coaches have they had since Gibbs "retired", and went into NASCAR racing?) he's going to have to produce a winning season or the armchair quarterbacks will start kibbitzing come Monday morning.

It was almost embarassing to watch and listen to "Redskin Report", or whatever it's called on the tube with Sonny and his friends. It got so bad at times, I thought they should have called it "Redskin Whining"!

I heard one game on 98.3FM one Sunday afternoon late last season where Sonny and his sidekick(Gene Michaels?) on radio said they felt so bad about the loss, and the way the 'skins played, they were going to skip the post game interviews in the Redskin locker room, and go directly to the team bus!

I'd never heard them say that in previous games.

George Michael, maybe? You really need to get some sort of dish so you can watch the news reports on your beloved Giants and stop obsessing about the Redskins. If I were you, I'd be embarrassed. Is it time for you to take another pill? :neener:

:howdy: Hiya Catt! :really: But seriously, didn't you catch that game on radio, where Sonny and George Michael made those comments?

It might have been a playoff game, I don't remember who they played against, but I recall being struck with the depth of their disgust over the game situation.

So, what I'm thinking is, if Gibbs can't produce a winner vs a whiner, it's not going to be a fun time in DC this year.

See, the other thing that makes me "obsessive" about the Redskins chances this year is that, where I work, I'm surrounded by dunderheads: die-hard Redskin supporters! They're all singing the praises of the "returning conquering" head coach. I just wonder if they're not setting themselves up for another fall.

I'm not worrying about the Giants; as I said, they're rebuilding, and it's gonna be a year or two before they get used to snuffing the Redskins like they used to do in the past.:dude:

Dear Penn:

First off, Sonny et al., while truthful, are always kidding and it's dry humor. I'll suspect the bus comment was just that. It hasn't been fun in DC for a while so how can it get worse? Gibbs offers hope and it's just damn good to see him on the sidelines.

Ahhhhh..the Giants are rebuilding...you backing down buddy? Where's your bravado of your earlier posts in this thread? Ooops..pill time.

Love,

Dunderhead
