recommendations on books for first time parents? a co-worker's wife just found out she's 5 weeks along. barely a lima bean

I thought the normal "What to Expect When Your Expecting" was a good book....it scared me a little though.
Whatever I read in that book (the bad stuff), I thought was going to happen to me. Its good to be informed of everything though."Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy was a good read. It was very entertaining, didn't hold back on a lot of things, which I thought was helpful.

There is one called "Your Pregnancy week by week" that has is really helpful and I got it from Target. I loved the "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy and "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" is a good read too.

I loved "The Pregnancy Bible: Your Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Early Parenthood" by Joanne Stone and Keith Eddleman. Wonderfully written, with some stunning photographs.
But the books that had me laughing out loud were the ones by Vickie Iovine "Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" and "Girlfriends Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood" and "Girlfriends Guide to Baby Gear".
I didn't get a lot out of "What to Expect When Your Expecting". I thought the layout of the book was horrible, and the writing style droll.
But the books that had me laughing out loud were the ones by Vickie Iovine "Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" and "Girlfriends Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood" and "Girlfriends Guide to Baby Gear".

YES! The "girlfriends guide" is the best- ALSO- it doesnt scared the bejezuz outta you like "what to expect" likes to do. Like Geeze Louise said- it gives you the "bad scenario" on everything. And I really didnt like to think of the "bad" things while being pregnant. BAH!
I would definately go with the girlfriends guide- because it takes such a nonchalant approach and makes you crack up.

nothing new to post - i loved the 'girlfriend's guide', too. really didn't like the 'what to expect' books. there's a few good father-to-be books out there, too!
