You can always do a quick court house wedding so you can get insurance. Then have the ceremony at a later date.

Many carriers will consider an existing pregnancy that isn't already being covered by an existing insurance policy a preexisting condition and will not cover it.

Well who's going to tell them it's pre-existing?

Most policies do not cover pregnancy for the first 18 months. So if she signs up and goes to the dr's office a few weeks later, they do a sonogram.. then the insurance company will have an estimate of when she conceived... which at this point is before she got married and secured coverage under her new husbands policy.

Well what if she didn't realize she was pregnant. Get it? Doesn't anyone know how to play the system? Sheesh.

Something to consider: a marriage would be a qualifying event for health benefits out of the normal enrollment period.

:yeahthat: I'd still say it's worth getting married quickly for benefits. Maybe they can call the insurance company and ask what their policy is (about the pregnancy).

It doesnt matter if she knew or didnt, those are the companies rules. She could wait 6 months to go to her first appointment, but once the insurance company finds out that she conceived before securing insurance w/ them it will be excluded.

It is the same thing for Aflac. They have maternity benefits that help cover your post partum time from work. But you have to have the policy in force for 18 months before coverage starts.

That is true marriage or having a child are both options of getting insurance instantly even if it is not enrollment time. If it were me though I would ask to see a copy of the policy and call HR to see if the pregnancy would be covered. I for one know how expensive it is to have a baby w/ out insurance.
