Day Laborers Charged With Loitering Now Face Deportation
Updated: Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004 - 2:36 PM
WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) - A Virginia law that allows local police to detain undocumented immigrants could mean deportation for nearly a dozen day laborers. The workers were among a group of 24 people arrested for loitering outside of a convenience store in Woodbridge.
While most were able to pay the $100 fine, eleven of the workers could not prove their identities. They're being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center in Manassas, and they could be turned over to federal authorities for deportation.
