President Bush has decided to not give civilian federal employees the 4.1% raise that Congress provided them in this year's FY budget due to the war on terrorism. Instead the civilians will get a 3.1% raise while military personnel get a 4.1% raise. Bush said that providing the full raise would harm the military's effort to stop terrorism.
Yeah right, Bush just cannot afford the whole raise because a year ago he felt that it was wise to give millionaires $60,000 tax cuts. How does refusing to provide the whole raise affect the war on terror? President Bush needs to stop using the whole rally around the flag sentiment for his conservative message. Use it to unite us against terrorism but not for refusing to raise civilian pay. Congressional leaders, including prominent Republicans, are critical of the president's reasoning and feel that the pay raise could be easily paid for.
Come on Mr. President, the civilians help just as much in the war on terror as our men and women in the military.
