Probably by helicopter, there was a NOTAM for a 30 mile temporary flight restriction around the power plant today.notquitesain1 said:anyone know when and how good ol' boy bush got to the power plant, i missed it.
Ken King said:Yes, NOTAM = Notice to Airmen, just as NOTMAR = Notice to Mariners.
Because that's real news, along with the runaway bride and When the next Bachelor tv show is coming on.AndyMarquisLIVE said:I was mad that MSNBC and FOX News wouldn't cover his speech instead they had wall to wall coverage on that boy who was found
How he arrived has nothing to do with the NOTAM. Wherever he is, at any given time, there is a 30 NM TFR. That is why pilots have to always check the NOTAM before every flight. As some of you know, I make the aeronautical charts for the FAA. We do not chart any "temporary" changes on our charts. This includes "temporary" flight restrictions. That is until AOPA had their fly-in in Frederick back in '02 or '03. Bush happened to be at Camp David that weekend, which meant the TFR around it was in effect. Major #s of pilots did NOT check the NOTAM before flying VFR into Frederick. Unfortunately for them, the main VFR route into Frederick is right down US15, right thru the Camp David TFR. They were diverted to harpers ferry, winchester, hagerstown and the like. After that, AOPA used their political muscle to have us chart the "temporary" flight restrictions in the area, and the "temporary" DC No Fly Zone (you know, the restricted airspace that PA Instructor pilots have their students fly thru, and thus cause the evacuation of the Capitol, because they are using a 4 year old chart, instead of the federally mandated current chart). Like the "temporary" flight restrictions will EVER be lifted. When has the Govt. EVER given UP power?Ken King said:Probably by helicopter, there was a NOTAM for a 30 mile temporary flight restriction around the power plant today.
My guess was that he would arrive via helicopter and as an aside I included the TFR contained in the NOTAM, it was not meant to imply that since there was a TFR he would have to be arriving via helicopter. TFRs vary in size, shape and reason for activation so in some cases the TFR might be greater or less then 30NM. Also hasn't the DC "No Fly Zone" been designated as an ADIZ and as such given more permanence?huntr1 said:How he arrived has nothing to do with the NOTAM. I would assume he flew too. I was just pointing out that no matter where he is, or how he got there, it's a TFR. I don't know what the status of the DC NFZ is, the charts I handle are out west. It's people on the other side of the floor from me that handle the east coast. You are correct about the different sizes/shapes of TFR's for different reasons of activation.Ken King said:My guess was that he would arrive via helicopter and as an aside I included the TFR contained in the NOTAM, it was not meant to imply that since there was a TFR he would have to be arriving via helicopter. I hope they build these plants. Maybe they can use the new emminent domain interpretation to get the land. Of course, St. Mary's already has a piece of property ready and waiting for a plant. They bought the property specifically to put a power plant on it. I love nuke power. Beats the hell out of coal and gas fired plants, no dependance on foreign govt. for fuel, no pollution from generation. Yes there is the issue of nuke waste, but that's what the Nevada salt mine is for. I'd actually prefer that the waste be put into rockets and shot into deep, deep space. This was the plants chance to impress the President in hopes of having some pull in getting one of the new nuke reactors that is going to be built in the near future.
Litterbug!huntr1 said:Yes there is the issue of nuke waste, but that's what the Nevada salt mine is for. I'd actually prefer that the waste be put into rockets and shot into deep, deep space.
No point in shooting it into deep space...the sun is a very effective incinerator and the cost to launch there would be much lower.huntr1 said:I'd actually prefer that the waste be put into rockets and shot into deep, deep space.
