If you don't like the price, then don't buy the product.AndyMarquisLIVE said:$10 billion? Considering we don't tax oil companies' profits.
Where did you get this from? Last year three of the major oil companies ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Cheveron had combined earnings of $108.2 billion and paid corporate taxes to the tune of $44.3 billion. Do some research, Slick.AndyMarquisLIVE said:$10 billion? Considering we don't tax oil companies' profits.
Well said.Nucklesack said:Once again Cindy, caught spouting the latest talking points and drinking the grape koolaid. I suggest you edit your post and say, "I have no idea what I'm talking about" and save everyone the trouble of explaining what commodities are, how the market works, and where the prices come from.
there is a reason that the Media reported the whole dollar figure, because $10.49 Billion is much more sensational.
But 2 points.
- it shows that Exxon (and the other companies) arent the ones that are causing the price increases. Gas was higher (both at the pump and by the barrel) at the end of last year and their Profit was $10.71 Billion (not a big difference). Gas is much cheaper this quarter and their profit was (virtually)the same
- Oil companies only make 10% profit on a dollar of gas. ( Link Link). if you understand anything about the economy (a hard find with a Democrat) then you are aware that 10% isnt "profitable". but for shi@ts and giggles, lets say we reduce Exxons profit margin to 1/2 (or 5%). that means you and i would save..... a whopping 10 cents (on an average $2.00 gallon of gas) on each gallon. we would still be taxed (federal state and local if applicable) 56 cents on a gallon of gas or 28%.
the question you should be asking, if Exxon made 10.49 Billion on a 10% profit margin why isnt the News reporting the Governments Profit on the 28% it made?
This quarters profits came on 10% margin. So they made 10 cents per dollar of revenue. In other words, there is very little "markup" (to use a retail term) on their product. In comparison, Microsoft's margin was 30.8 cents per $1. Google 23.8.
We really don't expect Cindy/Andy to understand these advanced finance concepts like "profit" v. "revenue".
We (i buy gas too..) aren't be gouged by the company. If you are being gouged its by the government (once again 28% of a gallon is tax in many states). Exxon does not even own the majority of the stations, it merely sells them gasoline

If there isn't any price gouging going on why is there 20cent a gallon difference in prices less than 20 miles from each other? Okay you say 10% isn't much but I know plenty of people who jump at the chance to save 10%okay 20cents a gallon times all the gallons they pump per day, nah I doubt it affects anybodys profits.
Just my thoughts.

Some of it's location. For example, down in Fredericksburg there is a Shell station right at the off ramp for 95. The station is always at least 20 more expensive than any of the gas stations just 1 block away. It's not price gouging because you are free to go to a different station.Foxhound said:Okay I may be way off the mark here but here goes.

like, one time he had everyone over to his house for a cookout dinner type thing, he was very thoughtful.
had some huge steaks, and in the middle of it all was this grilled deer butt. yes, butt, as in, there was the butt, and the two hind legs still partially attached.
I dont recall a apple or any other device stuck in the butt hole.
He had thoughts that day.
or, when someone asked him on the boat one time in Virginia Beach,, hey, can this boat get air?
I held on.
Foxhound had the thought that it would be a good idea to show just how much air a 23 ft bayliner going 60 miles an hour over a 15ft wave could get.
Foxhound has thought many times in my presence.. not always safe thoughts, but for the most part, damn fun thoughts.

yes, of course Im sticking up for you.Foxhound said:Hey man, that was half a deer not a butt, and it was properly skinned and gutted. The steaks were good though you have to admit it.
I did love the looks on everybodys face when I stopped the boat. Thanks for sticking up for me... you are sticking up for me right?
